Fascinating few days rewatching the Rush Hour Trilogy- it’s a relic of the early 00s with Jackie being able to perform less action set pieces per film, as his age caught up with him. Interestingly from the second film, the tone is very misogynistic as Carter and Lee inhabit a 13 year old boys fantasy where every country presents them with beautiful models for them to get ‘mushu’ from. Even Lee who starts off as stoic, acts like a randy school boy by part 3. Overall I have to say they are enjoyable with some funny moments, and make you appreciate how good Chan’s earlier action scenes actually were. Yes the 3rd part is by far the worst and the 2nd is probably the best. Fun to revisit but let’s leave their tone back in 2006.

Today marks 20 years since my first recording, found this in the middle of moving house. My first band was called TBC: To Be Confirmed, with the punctuation. We saw that written as the release date at the bottom of a poster advertising The Day After Tomorrow at a bus stop.

Hadn’t watched this film in over 25 years and it’s a fascinating piece of history, Jackie Chan thrown into a gritty crime thriller in the mould of 48hrs. It doesn’t quite work as Chan’s set pieces are thrown into the mix haphazardly but it’s great fun, with loads of action and a brilliant turn from Danny Aiello. The HK version is interesting but ultimately worse, as the subplot feels like a separate movie, great disc from 88 films. Thoughts?
