Takeaways from the NFTP Season 3 Finale!
🤝🤝🤝Networking is for the people and by the people - networking is a two-way street, and we’ve heard time and time again that there are people willing to help in this small world. Jennifer described that in pursuit of her professorship, not only had she previously connected with a future coworker at a professional event, but that coworker had worked with one of her references! This connection allowed for a smoother transition and hiring process, with a baseline level of trust immediately established.
❓❔❓We often hear in school that there are different ways to seek and interpret information, and part of that comes from the types of questions we ask. The four-question teaching technique allows us to understand and question a problem from a variety of perspectives (the why, the what, the how, and the combination of the three). The way an instructor presents information can be a key determinant for student success. Consider the way you may train and mentor employees and your teammates regardless of the role you are in - are you effectively communicating, teaching, and mentoring?
🤝🤝🤝Working with family can be challenging but also rewarding. Professor Weiser’s family has been loosely (or strongly) tied in the medical field for years, with fellow biochemists, engineers, and doctors at her immediate and familial level of access. In any collaboration, whether it is with family or not, set clear expectations of objectives and tasks for all those involved. In some cases, you may be the one putting the idea together, in some cases you may have to listen to the idea. Communication is key regardless of who you may be working with.
