Some of you know I've taken up painting. I'm working on turning some of my originaly paintings into limited edition canvases in order to support the Rick's Rambles Podcast and the projects I do. Here are a couple of early ones, No Name Creek, where I spent much of my youth, and Aspenglow, inspired by some time I spent in Colorado and John Denver's Music.

📸 Remembering Dwight Frye 🖤 (February 22, 1899 – November 7, 1943)

Today, we remember the iconic character actor Dwight Frye, who passed away 80 years ago on this date. Known for his intense portrayals of eccentric, often unsettling characters, Frye left a unique mark on Hollywood’s early horror genre. Born in Kansas and raised in Colorado, he initially trained for the stage, becoming known on Broadway for his electrifying performances.

In the 1930s, Frye found his way to film and became a legend through unforgettable roles in two classic horror films: Renfield, Dracula’s mad disciple in Dracula (1931), and Fritz, Dr. Frankenstein’s unhinged assistant in Frankenstein (1931). His expressive face, haunting laugh, and manic energy made him a perfect fit for horror roles, though he longed to play more varied characters. Despite his talent, Frye was often typecast in horror, a niche that both defined and limited his career.

Though his time in Hollywood was brief, Dwight Frye’s legacy lives on in the genre he helped shape. His portrayal of madness and devotion continues to inspire actors and horror fans today. Let’s honor Frye’s memory by revisiting his chilling performances and celebrating the thrill he brought to the silver screen.
