John Obi-Mikel, a former player for Chelsea, recently shared that he paid a significant sum of money to secure the release of his father, Pa Michael, who had been kidnapped while on his way to a funeral in 2018.

During an interview with Dubai Eye 103.8 Sport, Obi-Mikel recounted how the kidnappers had demanded a large ransom and threatened to harm his father if he did not comply.

He even had to negotiate with them while representing the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Despite eventually paying a large sum of money to secure his father's release, Obi-Mikel still struggles with the traumatic experience and has not yet told his young children about it.

According to reports, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, were found guilty of organ trafficking by a UK court.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has written a letter to the Chief Clerk of the Central Criminal Court in London, asking for mercy to be shown in their sentencing.

The Ekweremadus are facing a possible 10-year sentence under the Modern Slavery Act 2015, and are currently in custody awaiting sentencing on May 5.
