What about an infection??
Well… we haven’t discussed a serious outbreak, pandemic or mass viral infection scenario since the Ebola scare a few years back, but it’s still a very serious issue that people are not totally prepared for.

Truthfully, even bacterial infections like MRSA are common even in “normal” times and can be contracted easily from minor scrapes or cuts in even the most seemingly sterile environments such as hospitals and clinics.

In the past, we’ve discussed a few solutions and the preps that you should have on hand should you face a viral emergency.

But there’s one that we really don’t hear enough about except in the circles of those in the know.

It’s colloidal silver!

The the most underestimated survival tool...?

The way that we talk about gear you might think my B.O.B. weighs a ton. It doesn’t.

You have to keep things light when you're on the move, which means that heavy single use batteries are not a good choice.

1. Designate a "stable" point person

Someone is going to need to arrange for your defense and make hard decisions.

Who do you trust to do that during a highly stressful time?

Your spouse may be too emotionally drained and/or caring for your children's needs (especially if your family was attacked).

2. Give them signed "powers of attorney"

Your representative may need to make medical decisions... access personal records and even make financial withdrawals to pull together your defense fund in your absence.

3. Have the means to pay for your defense

You're going to need about $5,000 as a starter for your defense attorney retainer.

Determine now what assets you would let go, such as investments, life insurance draw, sell-able items (guns, jewelry, etc.)

4. Know when to pull the trigger

As you can see, surviving an attack is only part of the battle.

It's what happens AFTER an you use a firearm - even when justified - that can destroy a family almost as heavily.

The financial and emotional toll is very heavy and of course you should avoid it at all costs, short of your life of course.

Know your legal responsibilities in defending yourself so you know how to protect yourself legally in a shooting - and prepare yourself now for the aftermath if you're left with no choice but to defend yourself and your family.

As a fellow "survivalist", you know that your equipment is critically important to your very existence in a crisis.

Just one single item could mean the difference between life or death for you and your family.

But here's the thing...

Unless you're a soldier on the battlefield, you don't want to be flashing all of your cool EDC survival gear around.

What you want is to stay "covert" so no one knows what type of gadgets you're carrying.

This keeps you from being targeted in a crisis for either looting or begging from the "unprepared".

Here are a few often-ignored "secret hiding spots" for your EDC gear:

* "Coin pocket" - Most people forget that this little pocket at the top of your right-side front jeans pocket even exists. But it's a super handy place for small survival items you want fast access to. You'll be surprised at what you can fit in there without even noticing it!
Note: Here are a few ideas: A tiny compass, handcuff key, $20 bill, scream whistle, etc...

* Shoelaces - Switch out your regular shoelaces with colored 550 paracord. It comes in all colors (my kids get white) and inside the cord is 7 strands of strong nylon string for many scenarios. Typical laces are 4-5' long so this gives you up to 70' of string while still leaving you with shoelaces.

* "Money belt" - These were cool... then they were dorky... now we're making them cool again! The inside of the belt has a hidden zippered pocket for money (as well as small items like a razor, etc. for any number of needs). I personally carry a few first aid items, fishing hooks and line, chlorine tablets, copy of my IDs and some other flat items that I'm not at liberty to say... ;)

Bottom line, you must examine the best EDC gear to survive an "instant emergency".

2. Targeting U.S. Citizens For Killing

You may think this goes off into “tin foil hat land”, but note that our government assassinated US-born citizen (and radical Yemeni cleric) Anwar al-Awlaki – a clear violation of the 5th Amendment that guarantees that no American citizen shall “be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.”

At a national security conference, lawyers for the administration, the CIA and the Pentagon said American citizens are legitimate targets for killing when they take up arms against the U.S. and justified that “U.S. citizens far from any battlefield can be executed by their own government.” according to the ACLU.

3. Warrantless Searches In American Homes

In 2014, there were over 80,000 SWAT team raids in the U.S. – but only 6% of these were for legitimate criminal situations (such as violent criminals, hostage scenarios, etc.)

The rest were simply done as part of a “tip” or “investigation” – and many were done at the wrong address and innocent people were killed as a result.

What if a neighbor calls in a “tip” on you as “one of those preppers”? Or that you were telling him about how you “own a bunch of guns”?

When the police can simply barge into any home without a warrant because of “suspicion”, we’re in trouble.

4. Using “Spy Tactics” To Track Your Every Move

Police already use GPS to track thousands of criminal suspects every year, but critics say the practice violates the Fourth Amendment prohibition against “unreasonable searches and seizures.”

As technology for phone-hacking, x-ray, and CCTV cameras improves, there won’t be a single inch that’s not under the watchful eye of Big Brother and the power to track a U.S. citizens’ every move is well within reach of the CIA, NSA, FBI, and DHS.

5. (Armed?) Surveillance Drones In American Skies

The FAA has approved over 30,000 licenses for the use of drones to be flying over American homes.

Their popularity is quickly spreading – both as “toys” and under the guise of legitimate uses such as hunting fugitives, finding missing children and monitoring protest movements…

… but government and police officials have openly discussed arming the spy planes with “non-lethal weapons” like Tasers or bean bag guns for civil unrest.

Iraq and Afghanistan have been the perfect “training ground” for this technology without raising American citizen suspicion.

Our Constitution was designed to protect us from ourselves.

That’s all going away.

We’re going to see more and more of these protections eroding right before our eyes as the government convinces the American public that “it’s for our own good” to protect us from terrorist attacks.

Our founders would have seen our current militarized police presence and citizen “spy agencies” as an unconstitutional standing army against its citizens.

Gap, JCPenney, Victoria's Secret, Foot Locker: 465 store closures in 48 hours

The 'retail apocalypse' Opens a New Window. is alive and well this week with major chains such as Gap, JCPenney, Victoria's Secret and Foot Locker all announcing massive closures, totalling the death of more than 465 stores over the last 48 hours.

All four companies reported their fourth quarter results this week during the critical holiday period, with three of them (Gap, JCPenney and Victoria's Secret) reporting declining same-store sales, while Foot Locker reported growth that more than doubled expectations.

Still, despite the good news. Foot Locker announced Friday that it plans to close around 165 stores across the country, during its investor call.

That comes less than 24 hours after Gap announced it would close 230 of its namesake stores over the course of the next two years after the brand's same-store sales fell 7 percent during the holiday quarter. It also announced Opens a New Window. that it will separate its sister company Old Navy into its own publicly-traded company and create a new firm to house its remaining brands.

To top that off, earlier that day on Thursday, JCPenney Opens a New Window. announced it too will shutter 18 of its department stores this year, including the three it already announced in January. Opens a New Window.

Additionally, it said it plans to close nine of its home and furnitiure stores to coincide with its previous announcement to discontinue Opens a New Window. selling major applicances and furniture at all of its stores by the end of February.

However, Bob Phibbs, CEO of New York-based consultancy the Retail Doctor thinks JCPenney will be forced to announce more closures down the road.

“It is mind boggling that JC Penney still thinks they have time when the clock has run out and there’s no real plan. Closing 18 stores is barely a drop in the bucket of JC Penney’s more than 850 stores. If this was a big, bold effort to reinvigorate the brand, they would have announced they were closing hundreds of stores and investing in an outstanding experience at their other locations," Phibbs told FOX Business.

He added that JCPenney "still desperately" needs an inspiring vision for its brand as more and more customers head to Target, Walmart and Amazon.

Lastly, late Wednesday, L Brands' Victoria's Secret also reported its same-store sales fell during the holidays, dropping 3 percent and it will have to close 53 stores this year.

According to a Business Insider report, these announcements will bring the number of planned stores closures this year to well over 4,500.
