Day X activities in Brisbane CBD Tuesday 20th February

Dear Assange Supporters,
A significant event occurred in our Parliament on the 14th Feb 2024 related to the ongoing saga of Julian Assange’s incarceration.

Tasmanian Independent, Mr Andrew Wilkie submitted a bill to the House of Representatives urging the US and the UK to cease their prosecution of Julian Assange.
The Bill was presented by Mr Wilkie on behalf of the Parliamentary Friends of Julian Assange.

Dropping the charges would enable Julian to return to his family and home in Australia.

The Bill passed with Yes, 86, No, 42
The Bill as supported by the ALP, Greens and Independents), and rejected by Liberal and National party members.

Bridget Archer (Coalition) supported the motion.

Passing of this Bill represents an unprecedented show of parliamentary support for Assange, with two-thirds of the lower house voted for the motion.

DAY X is the 20th or 21st February
Day X is the date on which an announcement will be announced by British if Julian is to be granted an appeal against his extradition to the USA. If Julian’s appeal is rejected, he will be extradited to the USA for up to 175 years and certain death.

A peaceful assembly will be held in King George Square between 2 PM and 5 PM on Tuesday the 20th February.
Please be aware that this assembly is fully authorised by Brisbane City Council and QLD Police.
Placards will be available for your use at the event. Pamphlets for distribution to the public will be available for your use.
Please show your support for this event, for Julian and for our democracy.

On Monday night, the message shone brightly right around Australia. We stood in solidarity with over 800 organisations and millions of people worldwide on the Global Day of Action, calling for a definitive ceasefire in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory and an immediate end to the unprecedented suffering of those impacted by the conflict. Together with other humanitarian and human rights organisations, we sent a reminder to decision makers that this conflict has not been forgotten and that the demand for a ceasefire remains loud and ever more urgent.

Back in 2006, Director George Miller had a vision for spurring humanity into environmental action via a story about a Penguin who couldn't sing. I was fortunate enough to work on this film & found George's purpose inspiring & motivating. It strengthened my resolve to do whatever I could to bring about the urgent action that's needed in response to the global ecological & climate emergency.

So here we are 17 years later, & despite the efforts of many concerned citizens of planet Earth, very little has changed. Ecological collapse is sending vulnerable species extinct at up to 1000 times the natural rate. We risk losing everything. This is why WE MUST REBEL!!! ☮💚✊🌏
