Today's Gospel(July 23, 2024)
Matthew 12:46-50

At that time: While Jesus was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood outside, asking to speak to him. But he replied to the man who told him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brethren?" And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brethren! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother, and sister, and mother."

Today's Reflection:
Only those who do the will of God are welcomed by Jesus as His brothers, sisters and mother. The will of God is revealed in His Word, and in the dogmatic teachings and traditions of the Church. Our major task is to discover this will, understand it, and obediently do it. John Piper identifies two types of God's will; 'His sovereign will' which must happen as in the death of Christ, and 'His will of command'- which we often break as in 'love one another just as I love you.' To know the will of God, we must enrich ourselves with the written Word of God and saturate our minds with it. When we make sincere effort to know and do God's will, our merciful Father will give us the needed assistance. We need the help of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit to always do what pleases God.

Let Us Pray:
Today, we beseech your maternal intercession on behalf of married couples who seek the 'fruit of the womb' (mention the names of those you wish to pray for). O Almighty God, Father of our Lord and master and Saviour Jesus Christ the Nazarene, bestow upon those who needs this wonderful gift in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Have a great day ahead and God bless.

Today's Gospel(July 22, 2024)
John 20:1-2,11-18

Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. So she ran, and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” Saying this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom do you seek?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabboni!”(Which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, “Do not hold me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brethren and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” Mary Magdalene went and said to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”; and she told them that he had said these things to her.

TODAY'S REFLECTION:
Jesus forgave Mary Magdalene her many sins because she had loved much. She proved her repentance by wiping his feet with her tears of sorrow and anointed them with precious ointment. She showed her gratitude by dedicating the rest of her life to the service of the kingdom. She is said to be one of the women who courageously accompanied Jesus even to the foot of the cross. Above all, she was the first person to witness the resurrection of Jesus. According to one tradition, Mary Magdalene spent the last thirty years of her life in prayer and contemplation about heavenly realities. Her story depicts the wonders of God’s grace always at work in the life of those who believe in Christ and are always ready to do God’s will at all times.

Let Us Pray:
O Lord, hasten your word to perform it in every department of my life in Jesus name Amen.

Have a great day ahead and God bless.

21ST JULY, 2024
🟢EIGHTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY

COMMUNION SERVICE🍞🍷
*Lesson: Jeremiah 23:1-6 NRSV*
*Restoration after Exile*

*23:* 1 Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! says the LORD. 2 Therefore thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the shepherds who shepherd my people: It is you who have scattered my flock and have driven them away, and you have not attended to them. So I will attend to you for your evil doings, says the LORD. 3 Then I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the lands where I have driven them, and I will bring them back to their fold, and they shall be fruitful and multiply. 4 I will raise up shepherds over them who will shepherd them, and they shall no longer fear or be dismayed, nor shall any be missing, says the LORD.

*The Righteous Branch of David*

5 The days are surely coming, says the LORD, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 6 In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will live in safety. And this is the name by which he will be called: “The LORD is our righteousness.”

*Proper: Psalm 23 BCP 1662*
*_Dominus regit me._*

*23:* 1 THE LORD Is my shepherd :
therefore can I lack nothing.
2 He shall feed me in a green pasture :
and lead me forth beside the waters of comfort.
3 He shall convert my soul :
and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness, for His NAME's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil :
for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff comfort me.
5 Thou shalt prepare a table before me against them that trouble me :
Thou hast anointed my head with oil, and my cup shall be full.
6 Surely Thy loving-kindness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life :
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

*_Gloria Patri_*

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost:
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

*Epistle: Ephesians 2:11-end NRSV*
*One in Christ*

*2:* 11 So then, remember that at one time you gentiles by birth, called “the uncircumcision” by those who are called “the circumcision”—a circumcision made in the flesh by human hands— 12 remember that you were at that time without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us, 15 abolishing the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, 16 and might reconcile both to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it. 17 So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near, 18 for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then, you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, 20 built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone; 21 in him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God.

*Gospel: Mark 6:30-34, 53-end NRSV*
*Feeding the Five Thousand*

*6:* 30 The apostles gathered around Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. 31 He said to them, “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. 32 And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. 33 Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them. 34 As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.

*Healing the Sick in Gennesaret*

53 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored the boat. 54 When they got out of the boat, people at once recognized him 55 and rushed about that whole region and began to bring the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56 And wherever he went, into villages or cities or farms, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.

Today's Gospel(July 21, 2024)
Mark 6:30-34

At that time: The apostles returned to Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. And he said to them, "Come away by yourselves to a lonely place, and rest a while." For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a lonely place by themselves. Now many saw them going, and knew them, and they ran there on foot from all the towns, and got there ahead of them. As he went ashore he saw a great throng, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.

Today's Reflection:
God, in the prophecy of Jeremiah today, lamented over the nonchalant and indifferent attitudes of the leaders whom He had placed in charge of His people. Instead of watching over and caring for them, they allowed them to wander away and be scattered. Jesus in the gospel presents us with the model of a good shepherd. Sensitive to the plight of His followers after the day's work, he encouraged them to go to some lonely place and get some rest. You are a shepherd if you are placed in charge of any group. As a shepherd, do your best to be truthful, compassionate and transparent to them. Know your flock and call each one by their name. Enter into a relationship with them that they may know you and recognise your voice when you call. Be observant and sensitive to their needs; seek them out, give them attention and care, protect them from ravaging wolves, and show them the right way. Do not take advantage of your flock; rather, help them to grow.

Let Us Pray:
Gracious and holy Father, please give me intellect to understand you, reason to discern you; diligence to seek you; wisdom to find you; a spirit to know you; a heart to meditate upon you; ears to hear you; eyes to see you; a tongue to proclaim you; a way of life pleasing to you; patience to wait for you; and perseverance to look for you in Jesus name. Amen.

Have a wonderful Sunday ahead and God bless!

*COMMUNION SERVICE*🍞🍷
*Lesson: Micah 2:1-5 NRSV*
*Social Evils Denounced*

*2:* 1 Woe to those who devise wickedness
and evil deeds on their beds!
When the morning dawns, they perform it,
because it is in their power.
2 They covet fields and seize them,
houses and take them away;
they oppress householder and house,
people and their inheritance.
3 Therefore thus says the LORD:
Now, I am devising against this family an evil
from which you cannot remove your necks,
and you shall not walk arrogantly,
for it will be an evil time.
4 On that day they shall take up a taunt song against you
and wail with bitter lamentation
and say, “We are utterly ruined;
the LORD alters the inheritance of my people;
how he removes it from me!
Among our captors he parcels out our fields.”
5 Therefore you will have no one in the LORD’s assembly
to allot you a piece of land.

*Proper: Psalm 10:1-5, 12 BCP 1662*
*_Ut quid, Domine?_*

*10:* 1 WHY standest Thou so far off, O LORD :
and hidest Thy face in the needful time of trouble?
2 The ungodly for his own lust doth persecute the poor :
let them be taken in the crafty wiliness that they have imagined.
3 For the ungodly hath made boast of his own heart's desire :
and speaketh good of the covetous, whom God abhorreth.
4 The ungodly is so proud, that he careth not for God :
neither is God in all his thoughts.
5 His ways are alway grievous :
Thy judgements are far above out of his sight, and therefore defieth he all his enemies.

12 He hath said in his heart, T**h, God hath forgotten :
He hideth away his face, and He will never see it.

Today's Gospel(July 20, 2024)
Matthew 12:14-21

At that time: The Pharisees went out and took counsel against Jesus, how to destroy him. Jesus, aware of this, withdrew from there. And many followed him, and he healed them all, and ordered them not to make him known. This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: "Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved with whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he shall proclaim justice to the Gentiles. He will not wrangle or cry aloud, nor will any one hear his voice in the streets; he will not break a bruised reed or quench a smouldering wick, till he brings justice to victory; and in his name will the Gentiles hope."

Today's Reflection:
You plot evil, plan to harm your neighbour, take by force what belongs to another, kill to satisfy your evil desire. Do you know that a day is coming, ordained by the Lord, when you will be visited with the same kind of evil you planned against others? The evil that Haman planned against Mordecai in the book of Esther eventually became his lot. God our Father in His justice he repays each man according to his deeds. He desires that we give love and life to our world. Are you undergoing persecution? Listen; His word in Romans 12:19ff tells us; '... do not avenge yourselves, but let God be the one who punishes..., if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him to drink; conquer evil with good." The Lord will fight for you!

Let us pray:
Dear Lord, thank you for your forgiveness. Thank you for not abandoning us to our mistakes, but for reaching out instead to bring us home. Help me accept your mercy without shame. Thank you for the love you have poured out for me and all of your children. Help me live out of that love today and always. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Have a great day ahead and God bless.

Today's Gospel(July 19, 2024)
Matthew 12:1-8

At that time: Jesus went through the grain fields on the sabbath; his disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the sabbath.” He said to them, “Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the law how on the sabbath the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are guiltless? I tell you, something greater than, the temple is here. And if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you could not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is lord of the sabbath.”

TODAY’S REFLECTION:
The Pharisees look down on the disciple of Christ in their self-righteous attitude. Some people today fall into this temptation of criticizing others without first examining the intention behind their observations in order to see their own weaknesses. It is only the love and mercy of God that sustains humanity and anyone who lives according to this understanding finds hope.

Today's Gospel(July 18, 2024)
Matthew 11:28-30

At that time: Jesus declared, “Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and l will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

TODAY’S REFLECTION:
Jesus Christ came into the world as a child, grew and lived out the human experience. In this way, he became like any other human being except in relation to sin. So having known our daily human condition of struggle and hardship, our Lord promises to lighten our burden. But first we must bring them to him through prayer of a humble person pierces the cloud and wins God’s favours.

Let Us Pray:

Dear Jesus my shepherd, give me courage to overcome my fears, to stand firm in my faith, to live in accordance with your word, to walk the path of truth and love even when it is dangerous.
Grant me courage to have dogged trust in your care and protection over me even in the midst of darkest situation. Amen.

Have a great day ahead and God bless.

Today's Gospel(July 17, 2024)
Matthew 11:25-27

At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

TODAY’S REFLECTION:
The scriptures have already explained that God’s ways are not our ways. The fact of this statement comes out clearly in the words of Jesus in today’s gospel, thanking God for hiding the secret of the kingdom from the learned. Only those who are simple and humble before God, little children can come to the knowledge of the truth that leads to salvation.

Let Us Pray:
Oh Lord, give me the grace never to doubt God’s ability to satisfy all needs even though they require miracle in Jesus name. Amen.

Have a great day ahead and God bless.

Today's Gospel(July 16, 2024)
Matthew 11:20-24

At that time: Jesus began to upbraid the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! woe to you, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgement for Tyre and Sidon than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in S***m, it would have remained until this day. But I tell you that it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgement for the land of S***m than for you.”

TODAY’S REFLECTION:
God’s plan for his people is not disaster but blessing hence God gives people opportunities to change their evil ways and repent. Even in the face of danger, God always comes to the rescue of His people but all that is required is to remain steadfast in faith and good works. In this way, God’s miracles become sources of growth in faith and not condemnation for unfaithfulness.

Let Us Pray:
Lord, I am very sorry that I sin against you every day through my actions and deed, please look not on my sins, but on the faith of your church in Jesus name. Amen.

Have a great day ahead and God bless.

14/07/2024

Today's Gospel(July 15, 2024)
Matthew 10:34-11:1

At that time: Jesus said to his apostles, "Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man's foes will be those of his own household. He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it. "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me. He who receives a prophet because he is a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward, and he who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. And whoever gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he shall not lose his reward." And when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities.

Today's Reflection:
"When you stretch out your hands, I turn my eyes away. You may multiply your prayers; I shall not listen. Your hands are covered with blood; wash, make yourselves clean," says God. This is what walking the way of the world can bring to man; walking in anger, greed, jealousy, pride, envy, impatience, unfaithfulness, and so on. We must rather choose on a daily basis to willingly take up our crosses and follow Jesus in His footsteps that we may receive life. His footprints are clear and distinct. He was meek and gentle, humble and obedient even unto death. Taking the Cross is dying to self; putting to death my ideas, dreams, hopes, pleasure, the sin that rules in me, that Christ may reign.

Let Us Pray:
O loving God I am tired of managing poverty, give me the resources that will cancel every insult and shame which poverty has brought to me in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Have a great day ahead and God bless.

COMMUNION SERVICE

Lesson: Amos 7:7-15 NRSV

7: 7 This is what he showed me: the Lord was standing beside a wall built with a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand. 8 And the Lord said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said,

“See, I am setting a plumb line
in the midst of my people Israel;
I will spare them no longer;
9 the high places of Isaac shall be made desolate,
and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste,
and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.”

Amaziah Complains to the King

10 Then Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent to King Jeroboam of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the very center of the house of Israel; the land is not able to bear all his words. 11 For thus Amos has said,

‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword,
and Israel must go into exile
away from his land.’ ”

12 And Amaziah said to Amos, “O seer, go, flee away to the land of Judah, earn your bread there, and prophesy there, 13 but never again prophesy at Bethel, for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom.”

14 Then Amos answered Amaziah, “I am no prophet nor a prophet’s son, but I am a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore trees, 15 and the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’

Proper: Psalm 85:8-end BCP 1662

Benedixisti, Domine

85: 8 I WILL Hearken what the LORD God will say concerning me :

for He shall speak peace unto His people, and to His saints, that they turn not again.

9 For His salvation is nigh them that fear Him :

that glory may dwell in our land.

10 Mercy and truth are met together :

righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

11 Truth shall flourish out of the earth :

and righteousness hath looked down from heaven.

12 Yea, the LORD shall shew loving-kindness :

and our land shall give her increase.

13 Righteousness shall go before Him :

and He shall direct His going in the way.

Spiritual Blessings in Christ

1: 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 just as he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love. 5 He destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and insight 9 he has made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ, 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to gather up all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. 11 In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will, 12 so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; 14 this is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s own people, to the praise of his glory.

Gospel: Mark 6:14-29 NRSV

The Death of John the Baptist

6: 14 King Herod heard of it, for Jesus’s name had become known. Some were saying, “John the baptizer has been raised from the dead, and for this reason these powers are at work in him.” 15 But others said, “It is Elijah.” And others said, “It is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.” 16 But when Herod heard of it, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised.”

17 For Herod himself had sent men who arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because Herod had married her. 18 For John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” 19 And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to kill him. But she could not, 20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he protected him. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he liked to listen to him. 21 But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his courtiers and officers and for the leaders of Galilee. 22 When his daughter Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests, and the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it.” 23 And he swore to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, even half of my kingdom.” 24 She went out and said to her mother, “What should I ask for?” She replied, “The head of John the baptizer.” 25 Immediately she rushed back to the king and requested, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.” 26 The king was deeply grieved, yet out of regard for his oaths and for the guests, he did not want to refuse her. 27 Immediately the king sent a soldier of the guard with orders to bring John’s head. He went and beheaded him in the prison, 28 brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl. Then the girl gave it to her mother. 29 When his disciples heard about it, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.

Today's Gospel(July 13, 2024)
Matthew 10:24-33

At that time: Jesus said to his apostles, "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master; it is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household. "So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. What I tell you in the dark, utter in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim upon the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father's will. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. So every one who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven; but whoever denies me before men, also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.

Today's Reflection:
Fear is a destructive weapon which the enemy, the devil, uses to cripple the faith of God's chosen people. When he comes with his terrors and confusion, we become so fearful that we hide our identity as Christians, we are afraid of speaking the truth, we secretly yield to offering sacrifices to another deity or goddess seeking for one favour or the other, we feel that prostitution is a way out of our problem, we do all sorts of ungodly things and go to all kinds of places that are against our Christian faith. Trust in God is the only way to overcome the enemy. Saint Peter describes him as a roaring lion roaming about, seeking whom to devour (1Pt 5:8). The Master says, 'Do not fear him; rather, fear God who alone has the power to kill and to send to hell."

Let Us Pray:
Dear Jesus my shepherd, give me courage to overcome my fears, to stand firm in my faith, to live in accordance with your word, to walk the path of truth and love even when it is dangerous. Grant me courage to have strong-willed trust in your care and protection over me even in the midst of darkest situation. Amen.

Have a great day ahead and God bless.
