Market Place Ferry near the mouth of the River Tyne, linking North with South Shields. The Roman fort at the latter was known as Arbeia "the fort of the Arabs" where Mesopitamian barragemen, used to plying the Tigris, conveyed supplies upstream to Pons Aelius, that Newcastle fort situated next to the Norman keep and under the arches of the Victorian viaduct.
