The Church has updated its Transgender policy....thanks to Latter Gay Stories for a summary.

Read it with Mormon substituted for Trans and ask yourself how long before self pitying cries of persecution would follow

1 MORMONS can no longer participate in any overnight activities (must be escorted away from the activity).

2- MORMONS can no longer hold callings with youth or children.

3- Pronouns and preferred names are between the individual, family and church members; the church will allow MORMONS to include their preferred name on their membership record.

4- MORMONS are no longer allowed to fully participate in Young Single Adult conferences, For Strength of Youth (FSY) or general youth conferences.

5- MORMONS can no longer hold teaching callings.

6- If single occupancy bathrooms are not available in a church building, MORMONS should find an alternate solution. Options include a trusted person checking that no one else is in the toilet at the same time as a MORMON

7- Participation of a MORMON in a gender specific class (young men, young women, priesthood or relief society) should be limited (and rare) after first receiving approval from Area Presidency.~~~~ Sara

Gail earned her Bachelors in 1995 at Sonoma State University, where she focused on humanistic Psychology. She earned her Master’s in Clinical Psychology in 1994 at John F Kennedy University, and is licensed in both California, USA, and The Netherlands, where she resides. She returned to her education at San Francisco Theological Seminary/Redlands University, where she earned a Certificate in Spiritual Direction in 2022

Gail was raised in the LDS church. Her family was privileged to serve in the Andes mission in (1962-1965) as mission president, wife, and family. Mormonism gave her some things that she will cherish. In 2018 she left Mormonism for a new faith home. Gail is a Psychotherapist, and a spiritual director. Her specialties include: grief, loss, faith journeys, and disability.

Gail was born with cataracts, and has limited vision. She is also hearing impaired, and uses hearing aids. She is an ally to the LGBTQIA2s+ community. She is a friend to those dwelling on the fringes.

Dr. John H. Tyson, minister for the United Methodist congregation wrote a book entitled “Homosexuality: A Conversion: How A Conservative Pastor Outgrew The Idea That Homosexuality Is A Sin.” Much of the scientific research for the book was provided by Mormon historian and biologist, Dr. Gregory Prince.

Tyson wrote “Homosexuality: A Conversion” after his many failed attempts at using religion to persecute q***r people. The more he studied the writings, the historical documents and the science the more he saw that man—not God created the negative traditions against homosexuality. And that the waters of baptism cannot take it away.

I absolutely recommend the book. It’s available online, through sellers like Amazon and others. It’s the perfect book to help you have meaningful discussions with those who still use Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Romans (and the Family Proclamation) to try to bolster their distain for q***r experiences.

Carla Long is from a small town in Kansas . She attended Graceland University and graduated with a BA in Mathematics. Carla and family live in Kansas City, MO, as she is now a Counselor to the Presiding Bishop for Community of Christ.

Joelle Wight, a minister of Community of Christ, serves as the Invitation Minister and Co-Mission Center President in the Chesapeake Bay Mission Center. She was ordained to the office of Seventy in November 2019 and set apart as a President of Seventy in April 2023. Joelle received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Graceland University. She lives with her little dog in Washington, DC, USA

It culminated this week with incredible performances from the cast and meticulously researched writing. This experience is all too common within religious communities and we applaud the programme for its work. We're live with Andrew Bolton & Ryan Comins as we talk about an upcoming Peace Colloquy which is being hosted by Community of Christm here in the UK on March 15th - 17th, 2024.

Why is Peace such an important principle of the restoration?

Ryan Comins: After graduating from Queens’ College, Cambridge with a degree in Theology & Religious Studies, Ryan completed a PGCE and worked for two years as a teacher of Philosophy and Religion in Surrey. He then returned to Cambridge to complete an MPhil in Biblical Studies. In September 2023 he began his PhD. He grew up a Latter Day Saint and is a friend of Community of Christ.

Andrew Bolton: Growing up Roman Catholic he first met Latter Day Saintism in Oregon when he was a 19 year old horticultural student. He later met Community of Christ in Germany when working there and was caught by the idea of Zion, of a better world in this life. He was also drawn in by the very loving fellowship of congregations in Germany and then in South Wales. He coordinated Peace and Justice Ministries for 12 years for Community of Christ at their international headquarters in Independence. He was born in
Preston, Lancashire and went to school in the Clitheroe/Downham /Chatburn area. With Jewell, his wife of many years, they now live in Leicester and enjoy working on their garden allotment, and engaging in a number of peace and justice projects.

21st Century Saints are delighted to welcome today's announcement from the UK Government that Mandatory Reporting laws will soon come into effect. Under new rules, anyone working with children and young people in regulated sectors could be barred from working with children again if they fail to report a disclosure. It also means that anyone who actively blocks someone from reporting or covers up a disclosure of child sexual abuse could go to prison for seven years.

It is our hope that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will welcome todays announcement and consider how those members of the Church who will become mandatory reporters will receive training to understand this responsibility and feel confident in their duty.

Until the Church of Jesus The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints remove every claim that confession or disclosure of child abuse is subject to client clergy privilege and can or should be withheld from authorities this needs shouting from the rooftops.
Let's be clear telling leadership they don't have to report is a policy, not a doctrinal teaching and can be changed with enough calls upon the church to change this
Obeying the law is necessary but insufficient in safeguarding. A strong moral compass is also required. .....Sara
