Distractions and Enemies of Nigerian Football, Who Are They?

It's no longer news that there are desperate Enemies of Nigerian Football who are bent on doing everything to derail and enslave the many millions of the round leather game which is the joy of the people even in the times when we are trying to sob from the many hardships that football presently is taking our minds from.

Nigeria Super Eagles just yesterday stunned the host country Cote d Ivoire with a lone goal to keep the joy of many who are supporters alive and going but it shows that few are not happy and ceaselessly want the team to fail by all means and when they discovered that their plans are not forthcoming into fruition they in turn use s, some kind of cheap blackmail to rub off the joy and derail the many millions of fans of the joy who are still in the mood of ecstasy.

But, as God could have it, the mandate of the present President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has proven many times is a mandate orchestrated by God because it always glaring and awkward to see that those planning evil are always doing it at the wrong time as God normally exposes them of their evil act because a pure heart of the president of NFF will always be shielded by the Almighty God.

They tend to continue with their campaigns of calumny every given year of a fresh administration of the NFF but because their motives are evil it shows the God who sees the cry of millions of Nigerians knows the way to relieve his people from stress, depression, su***de and hunger will continue to hear the prayers of his people and yield it fruitfully.

Finally, it is certain that Blackmailers are never tired of their dirty habit because of greed so, they will keep at it for survival I want to assure Nigerians not to be distracted for it will not hold waters for whatever avenues they tend to use in blackmailing the system and again, this is a piece of advice to this treacherous souls, the world is changing and people are learning very fast this act of blackmailing is an old school they should devise another means because Nigerians are wiser now!

I no go gree...the staff resigned

One of the terrible things that can happen to your mental health is working in a very toxic environment as a professional.

Here is a story of a sound professional. She works in the educational sector as a Principal of a private school in Abuja. The woman is a definition of diligence in your endeavours and through her amiable personality, the school under her management has continued to attract more students every session.

Despite these noble deeds, the Proprietor of the school is fond of deliberately owing her and other teaching staff their salaries. Most times their salaries are withheld till the following month, that is, for instance January salary is paid in February ending. The same ugly scenario will be repeated in the month of February, March and so forth.

Painfully, the proprietor of the school is not lacking money. He has the resources to pay his staff as at when due, but he refused the path of honour for years.

The yuletide season is known for joyful celebration all over the world. Sadly, the staff were not paid for the months of November and December. The owner never cared.

But guess what? The school resumed on Monday and behold the bombshell all over the place. The Principal tendered her resignation letter and there was drama.

The shylock business owner began to beg her not to leave the school. As this drama was unfolding, another very good and hardworking professional walked in and tendered his resignation. "What is happening, is this a planned work or what? he querried.

If you are business man with staff under you, don't you ever play 'God' in their lives, behaving as if you are the source of their livelihood. You are not the source. God is the source.

This is one of the wicked acts that goes on in many private organisations. I know that some staff are equally terrible in the discharge of their duties. If they refuse to improve their productivity, you are at a liberty to sack them immediately.

However, you cannot treat staff who are dedicated to your organisation by delaying or denying them their financial entitlements.

There are some people that will leave your organisation after years of maltreatment and that is the beginning of your downfall.

Don't be an extension of wickedness to your staff. Feel free to sack them when they don't live up to expectations, but also remember that they have the right to dump your organisation due to your inhumanity.

It is a season of "I no go gree...the staff have resigned and more are planning to resign.

Meanwhile, the school Proprietor is scared that many parents will withdraw their children from the school when it becomes glaring to all that the Prinicipal has resigned.

Most private schools in Abuja are swimming in these ugly situations.

2023 Ballon d'or: How Osimhen was voted 8th best in the world

Nigeria and Zambia placed Victor Osimhen in the 4th position. Cote d'Ivoire voted the Super Eagles striker 2nd. Cameroon did not even consider Osimhen at all. Cameroon voted Mbappe as the best, while Onana was voted in 4th position. Kai!

Only few African countries considered the Napoli striker in top 5, as most of them, including Nigeria placed Lionel Messi in the 1st position.

Guinea did not reckon with Messi in the top 5 category.

Portugal voted for his own as the best.

The dollar mess is deep...

Dollars and Dilemmas: Tinubu's Fiscal Chess

One of the students in my career coaching class shared his challenging journey through secondary school. His father, despite holding a lowly office position, insisted on sending his only child to one of the state's best schools. Each term, roughly every three months, the father sought a substantial pay-ahead loan from his boss, amounting to more than half of his monthly salary.

This continued for the entire six years of secondary education, until the embrace of a low-tuition fee university relieved his father's finances. It seemed peculiar that the company allowed this, but given his long service, it appeared to be a form of loyalty being rewarded.

Unfortunately, while his colleagues could afford career advancements by changing jobs and, naturally, better pay, his father remained stuck in the same job for many years, with little chance of promotion. Such was the price he paid for ensuring his son received a solid foundation.

In 1989, Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) was established, operating as a liquefied natural gas-producing company and having a liquefied natural gas plant on Bonny Island, Nigeria. Interest in LNG emerged in the 1960s when the concept of monetizing flared gas was introduced. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, is a byproduct of refining petroleum (crude oil) or extracting it from natural gas streams.

Over the past 15 years, NLNG has reportedly supplied over 2.4 million tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to our homes. A ton is about 910 kg. The 25 liters of vegetable oil in your house are roughly equivalent to 25 kg. This gives you an idea of how important NLNG is to our homes. NLNG is considered one of the most important economic projects in Nigeria.

NLNG is owned by several entities, with Nigeria having 49%, while other entities like Shell and TotalEnegies own the rest. It is one of the most finely run organizations in this country. NLNG has also paid dividends of about $18 billion to the Federal Government of Nigeria over the years.

Philip Mshelbila, the current MD, was brought from the Atlantic LNG Company of Trinidad & Tobago, where he was CEO. NLNG is a regular case study in international business schools as a fine example of public-private partnerships.

You may be asking how this is related to Forex. Well, the Tinubu administration has decided to securitize about $7 billion of the country’s dividends for five years from the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG). This is just a complex way of saying the FG wants to do what the dad of my mentee did at his workplace.

It means that the dividend payments, which will accrue to Nigeria from its 49% equity in NLNG over five years, would be sourced and handed to the country by a consortium of banks led by Standard Chartered. The bank expects to be paid a fee for the transaction, and the government will also cover the interest payments for the entire period.

It's a strange request because, according to the Budget Office, the FG is only due $2.2 Billion over the next 4 years from its investment in the NLNG. How did they arrive at $7 billion? In essence, while the government is telling the public that its securitization is for 5 years, unless a miracle happens in gas production, we are looking at a situation where a government is borrowing future revenue for up to 12 years. And that is without accounting for the interest on this loan.

Why is the government doing this, you ask? Well, you saw how the naira to the dollar jumped from N800 to N1300 within a month; it's because the country does not have enough dollars to meet the demand. And this is no fault of anyone but the government itself due to its terrible fiscal and monetary policies over the years.

If you do not know what 'fiscal' and 'monetary' mean, they are fancy ways of talking about how the country is being run. Now, to ensure that Nigeria has enough dollars for its duties like exchanging the naira to dollar for manufacturers who want to buy foreign equipment or raw materials, or exchanging naira to dollars for those who want to study abroad, the government is trying to find ways of sourcing dollars by all means.

What the government plans to do with NLNG is being done with NNPC, the country's oil company. NNPC intends to borrow $3 Billion from the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), implying that repayment will be from future crude oil earnings.

According to a Punch report in September last year, oil exports account for 80% total national revenue. We are taking future revenue and deciding to spend them in the present.

Ideally, what other countries do is attract foreign investors who come into the country with their dollars to invest in the local economy (FDI), or even just invest in our stock market (FPI). But that has not been happening for a long time due to the lack of confidence in the government's ability to provide an enabling environment for businesses (it was the past CBN governor who challenged a businessman to a public fight...(I am not kidding)... over publishing exchange rates.

Just last week, Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) said it will remove several major Nigerian securities from the MSCI Frontier Markets Indexes, including the top nine according to the MSCI's weights. They include Dangote Cement PLC, MTN Nigeria Communications PLC, and Guaranty Trust Holding.

Forget the big words; what it means for foreign investors is that the Nigerian stock market is a risky place to put their money due to an increased risk of repatriating funds from the Nigerian market.

Of course, this will likely erode investor confidence and further dampen foreign investor sentiments towards the country. It was only in September that another organization, FTSE Russell, reclassified Nigeria's equity country status from frontier markets to unclassified.

Again, don't worry about the big words. These are signals to foreign investors to look twice before putting their funds into the Nigerian market.

What the government plans to do in the coming weeks is to take the $7 billion loan based on what they plan to get from NLNG, take about $7 billion based on what they plan to get from NNPC, take a $3 billion loan from Afreximbank, and then another $1.5 billion loan from the World Bank.

There is more. Just 2 days ago, President Bola Tinubu urged the National Assembly to approve a request to borrow one $7.8 billion and another €100 million loan.

If you still do not understand, all this means that we have chopped a lot of our future income and then taken some more loans, which would be difficult to pay back because the future income that would have been used to pay the loans would no longer be available.

If you hear an individual do this, what do you think of him? If you see a country do this, what would be your reaction?

Of course, the individual will have a lot of money now, but what happens months down the line, especially if what he is using the loans for, after converting to naira, is to build mansions for himself and his vice, buy cars for his wife, and throw some money for a fine yacht (did I spell that right)?

There will be respite in the forex market for now, but in the next few months, when it rains it pours.

Exposed!

Apparently, this guy lordlamba is supposed to be a content creator. I've probably seen one or two of his skits and that's it, because I find many of them boring and silly, hence, I filter what I digest.

From what I know, Instagram doesn't pay Nigerian content creators. Not stars, not views.

Tiktok doesn't pay Nigerian content creators for views, but people can gift you. And for you to get more gifts, you need to go live often. I'm sure this guy barely goes live.

The only way you can say they make "money" from views, stars and in stream ads, is through Facebook.

Which they have to do illegally, because Facebook doesn't pay Nigerian creators.

So, what they do is get an admin in an eligible country, to manage their page for them.

And even at that, Facebook pays very meager sum for a million views, and many of these barely get a million views per video.

10000 stars is just 100 dollars.

The major way creators like this guy make significant income is through sponsored ads and brand influencing. If you count how many sponsored post this guy has done on his Instagram page, I can tell you for free that it's not up to the money he used in buying one of this Benz.

But, every once in a while, this guy keeps trending for either purchasing a new house or buying a new car.

And when you ask them what they do for a living, they tell you they are content creators.

By now, if you don't get the logic behind many of these young guys turning to content creation, you probably will never get it.

Life story of defunct Nigeria Airways...

THE VOYAGE

By Professor Moyo Okediji

About 30 years ago, I slept at the Murtala Muhammed Airport for four days.
No, I was not a homeless vagabond.
I had bought the Nigeria Airways ticket to fly to the United States for a one-year sabbatical leave.

But when I arrived at the airport, I realized that my ticket was not honored, though I had bought it legitimately.

Whenever a plane was about to leave Lagos for New York, the NA officials posted a manifest list, and my name was not there.
They would ask me to wait for the next list.
This drama of “Your name is not yet listed, wait for the next manifest list” continued for four days.

I couldn’t leave the airport and return home because I lived in Ile Ife, and had bid my people goodbye for one year. They all expected I would be in NY already.
I was therefore forced to sleep by the door of the NA office at the airport, waiting for the release of the manifest list with my name on it.

I was not alone. There were hundreds of stranded passengers like me there—men, women, young, old, tall, short, thin fat—all sorts of people.

The Murtala Mohamed Airport was different then than what we have now.
There were no security officers. People drifted in and out in their hundreds. It was rowdy. There was no order of any sort. Food hawkers milled among the crowd of the stranded passengers like me, selling hot dogs, sandwiches, puff-puff, moin-moin, gala, meat pie, hamburgers, even rice and dodo.

People hawked sodas such as Cocacola, Fanta, Sprite and malt drinks.
The interior of the airport was packed like the Oyingbo market. There were also pickpockets and other fraudsters pulling fast tricks on unsuspecting victims.
I was hesitant to buy anything. I had changed all my naira to dollars at the rate of one dollar to three naira. But if I wanted to change my dollar back to naira, I could only collect one naira for my dollar at the airport, which would be a loss.

I was desperate when I got hungry. But someone was willing to give me two naira for a dollar, so I changed two dollars. I bought some moin-moin and coke.
The guys who helped me to change my money said I had no hope of traveling unless I was willing to bribe someone.
I was adamant. I wasn’t going to bribe anybody. It was my right to fly out, after all, I had paid for my ticket.

By day four, I lost hope of traveling out. I used my handbag as my pillow and reclined on the floor, to take a nap.
The young woman who slept a couple of feet away from me was also napping, snoring loudly. I asked her earlier, and she said she had been there for almost a week. She said she was ready at that point to accept the offer of a Nigeria Airways official who wanted s*x in exchange for helping her to get on the manifest list.

For how long I had been asleep I couldn’t tell, when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I opened my eyes. It was Segun Odegbami, the famous international soccer star, who played for the Green Eagles. I thought I was dreaming. I had met him through a friend, Tunde Fagbenle, and we had shared drinks at Fagbenle’s house in Lagos a couple of times.

I couldn’t refer to him as my friend, and I didn’t even know he would recognize me or remember my name.

I was a fat nobody next to a big star like him, someone for whom Ebenezer Obey had waxed an album, with the chorus, “It is a gooooal, Odegbami,” a bestselling song throughout Nigeria.

When I opened my eyes and it was him, I wanted to close my eyes back, thinking I was just dreaming.

But he spoke to me. “Moyo, what are you doing on the floor here?”
I quickly sat up, wiped my eyes, and smile at him. I narrated my story.
He shook his head, and said with a sigh, “That’s Nigeria Airways for you. I came to see someone off to London, and as I was leaving I happened to see you.”
“Na so we see am o,” I told him.
“Where is your ticket?”
I dipped my hand inside the pocket of my agbada, made out of new Ankara textiles. It had double as my daywear and my pajamas for four days. I retrieved the ticket and gave it to him.

He said, “Excuse me for a minute. Let me go and talk with them.”
Then he went inside the Nigeria Airways office, and within minutes he was back, with two young men.
“Moyo, are you ready to go now,” Odegbemi said, “because a flight is leaving in about fifteen minutes.”

I didn’t need to say yes. My eyes said it all.
The two young men picked up my luggage.
Odegbami gave me a hug and wished me bon voyage.

The two young men led the way with my luggage—just a suitcase and my hand luggage.

They took me to the back of the airport, and there was a Peugeot 505 waiting for us.
They loaded my luggage in the boot and drove me down the tarmac to the huge aircraft about half a mile away.

From a persona non grata, I instantly transformed into a VIP, driven on the tarmac like a departing president.
Nobody checked my luggage for any contraband. Everything was loaded directly on the plane and I was given the luggage tags.

I walked to my seat and sank into it. I couldn’t help but notice that the plane was less than half full.

There were empty seats everywhere when the plane took off. Yet, there were scores of people waiting at the airport, denied their right to fly, after paying their fares.

I remembered the poor woman snoring next to me on the floor at the airport.
Tears began to fall from my eyes.
“If they ever see me again in that godforsaken country,” I swore silently, “they should cut off my head.”

Former Mavlon's Midfielder Scores Debut Goal in Europe

An export of Mavlon Fc of Lagos, Israel Ayuma scored a debut goal for NK Istra of Croatia on Saturday evening.

Ayuma, an energetic midfielder was very combative and skillful in the midfield tussle against Gorica in the game that the visitors found it very difficult to breathe, as he scored the second goal in the 3-0 demolition of Gorica.

And the football tool that did not give the visitors breathing space was Ayuma, the Nigerian teenage midfielder, who has been tagged ‘Skillful Pogba’ by his teammates and fans of NK Istra 1961 due to his similar style with the French player, who won 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

There is no doubt that the 18- year old Ayuma has all it takes to develop his game in Europe, having arrived the Croatian club a month ago and he proved it on his debut game with great football performance.

Mavlon FC enters partnership with Addidas

Mavlon Fc has continued to redefine grassroot football in Nigeria and the latest coming from the modest NLO side is the partnership deal with Addidas, the largest sportswear manufacturer in Europe.

It was scooped that Adidas decided to partner with Mavlon Fc judging by the pedigree of the club in nurturing and discovering talented young footballers and their exploits in both domestic competitions and international tournaments.

Last year, Mavlon FC went on a training tour of Europe where the team featured in seven friendly games with some European clubs at the Evima sports ground in Bansko, Bulgaria.

The team won four games, drew one and lost Two, but the truth is that Evima Sports centre in Bansko, Bulgaria where the games were played was able to lunch the management of Malvon and her players to European football.

It is also interesting to note that Mavlon Fc gave a very good account of Nigeria Football when they participated at this year’s Viareggio Cup in Italy, where the team was the team crashed out in round 16 of the tournament .

With all these achievements within three years of her existence, there is no doubt partnership with Addias is a welcome development that will give the team a more pleasant brand outlook kitting all round Addidas.

In an exclusive interview with www.totorinews.com, Bar. Kenneth Agadagba, chairman of the club said that getting support from Addidas is a big encouragement to the management of the team and it is very exciting for the young players.

“This support from Addidas is very encouraging and this gesture also makes the players to be very excited,” Bar. Agadagba said.

“Mavlon FC will continue to strive to improve in football management and we hope to partner with more corporate firms in the future.

In a related development, an official of Addidas informed that partnering with Malvon Fc is another way of fulfilling their corporate social responsibility in the country.

“We accessed Mavlon critically and we are glad to associate with the team,” the official said.
