Pyre Magazine An online publication of Dark Lit. Submissions open January 17th for our Spring/Summer Issue. editor-

10/05/2024

I am considering putting together an event/panel proposal for AWP 2025. It will most likely be an online event, and if it is not approved, I may organize it myself and release it as part of Pyre Magazine. If I proceed with this plan, I would like to know if any of my fellow horror authors on my friends list would be interested in participating. I am looking for 3 to 5 panelists from diverse backgrounds. If you are interested or know someone who might be, please let me know in the comments or share this message with them.

Well, serial/prolific plagiarist John Kucera is at it again. We received a submission titled "Twilight Mind," after a quick Google search, it's easy to find that the story is a word-for-word copy of a story written by V.M. Ayala and titled initially "Emotional Resonance." Be vigilant, editors; this person has no shame.

For the first time, Pyre Magazine is available in a physical edition. There are 120 pages of beautiful full-color images and fiction, flash, nonfiction, and poetry from over 30 contributors.
Due to cost, we had to go the print-on-demand route, and it's far more expensive than I had anticipated, so I am exploring other options to make the physical edition available. However, the PDF/Digital edition is reasonably priced, so if you can afford one and want one, I know I would really appreciate it.
For the past 3 years, I have personally financed the magazine--website upkeep costs, paying artists and writers, not to mention the hours of labor involved with editing and page layout--so every sale goes back into the magazine and helps keep the project going. To be honest, I'm not sure how much longer I can afford to do this if I don't find a reasonable way to make it profitable. So, if you want a magazine full of awesome work from some incredible artists and it won't break the bank, consider purchasing Pyre Magazine Vol 2. Issue 1.

Pyre Magazine Presents its first physical copy edition. 120 beautiful pages full of art, short stories, flash fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. In this slam-packed special edition, you'll find work from more than 30 artists.

We always thought that the bees were what we should be most afraid of on the playground.  That is, until some students fell in the quicksand, leaving baseball caps and Cub Scout hats on the surface to show where they once lived.  Our signs warned people away from the pits, b

“$5 Face Paint.
A sign is etched into a rotten framework; the letters are peeling, flaking, in the summer heat. A small business, situated between the ring toss and a donut stand—nestled in the yellowing grass. The days are long; the shifts are longer, but she weathers them all the same.”

“What the hell is a bob-a-thon?” Karl asked, passing beneath the cross-stitched banner as he followed Janine to join the small crowd surrounding the barn. It was the usual set-up, a keg on ice and thudding music, but then he saw it—a water tank large enough for cattle, metal splotchy with pale...

As the screen door slammed behind us, Momma called out a warning about swimming in the creek. “You’re likely to fall in and drown,” she said, “or get eat up by a cottonmouth.” She’d worried about snakes since I was six and she’d found me in the backyard hugging a rattler like a doll. ....

Crusty, used up, filth-ridden, a disease tracking robotic vein. The most crucial part of a diabolical mechanism. A hair thin, pin prick point; the culmination of all pointlessness. I guess everything serves a purpose. The vacant soul of existential worthlessness can't be sewn up, but it seems my par
