Two brothers burst into tears after court sentence them to life imprisonment for armed robbery in Lagos.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of an Ikeja Special Offences Court has sentenced a domestic worker, Genesis Ezebong, his brother, Micheal and one Ikade Moses, to life imprisonment for armed robbery in the Palm Groove area of Lagos State.

She said that the trio while armed with cutlass, shovel and other dangerous weapons, robbed one Daniel of one Compact Laptop, one Apple laptop, gold and costumes, jewelleries, Blackberry phones, one digital camera, soccer shoes and two other phones belonging to one Titilope Akeredolu. The prosecution, during trial, called three witnesses and tendered documents such as defendants’ statements which were admitted as exhibits.

The convicts were arraigned on December 18, 2020 while the trial commenced on January 11, 2022. The prosecution counsel, Omowumi Bajulaye, during the arraignment of the convicts, had told the court that they committed the offence of conspiracy and armed robbery on January 13, 2019, at No 222 Ikorodu Road, Palm Groove, Lagos.

The witnesses who had testified before the court included Inspector Okunade Olumuyiwa, Titilope Akeredolu and Investigative Police officer and Inspector Olawale Oni.

The witnesses had narrated to the court how Akeredolu’s domestic worker conspired with others, who were armed with dangerous weapons, broke into his boss’s house with his gang after he had left to church, and locked the security man as well as other occupants in the toilet. Akeredolu said after she went to church on Sunday morning, she received a call from her security man who told her that the first convict, Genesis Ezebong, her domestic staff, broke into her apartment with a cutlass and stole her things.

She told the court that the gateman narrated the robbery incident to her, how they were locked in the toilet, and how the convicts broke into her room around 10.30am.

The judge held that the prosecution proved beyond a reasonable doubt, the circumstantial evidence against the defendants whils sentencing them.

Ondo Government Bans Teachers From Enrolling Their Children In Private Schools.

Ondo State Government has stated that it is now an offence for public school teachers to enroll their children and wards in private schools.

Victor Olabimtan, the Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, in the State claimed that the development had led to the declining enrollment in State-run primary schools.

In a statement issued on Sunday, August 28, the Head of Press and Information Services of SUBEB, Bisi Agboola, stated that the government is concerned about the situation despite its investments in elementary education throughout the State.

The statement read: "The government condemned in strong terms the attitude of some teachers taking their biological children to private schools and ruled that it has become an offence for any public school teachers to take their wards to private schools.

"Ondo State government will not relent in its efforts at upgrading school standard as well as its personnel.

"It called on the Education Secretary in the 18 local government areas in the state not to hesitate in reporting any teacher found wanting in their duty post for possible sanction."

‘I was just so upset’ – Anthony Joshua breaks down in tears during press conference as he explains bizarre ring meltdown after losing to Oleksandr Usyk.

British-Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua broke down in tears in his post-match press conference in Sunday morning, August 21 after having a meltdown following his loss to Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua, 32, suffered a second successive defeat to Usyk, 35, via split decision at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night and then in a surprising turn of events, threw the belts away, tried to lunge at someone from Usyk's team, walked out of the ring and then came back to give a bizarre rant questioning how he lost to Usyk.

In the post match press conference, the former champion got emotional in as he explained this was "from the heart" and came as a result of him being "mad" at himself.

Joshua said: “When you're trying to do things from the heart and everyone is just not understanding. It was just from the heart. I was mad at myself. Not anyone else just myself.

“So I thought, I've got to get out of here because I'm mad. Like anyone, when you're angry, you might do stupid things.

"I was mad and then I realised, 'Oh s***, this is sport. Let me do the right thing and come back.'

“I just spoke from my heart. It's been so tough. You see AJ holding it together, yeah, and I'm a hustler so I try put things together. Try work hard and put things together and make sure my team's good.

“But it comes at a cost, a big cost. It'll never break me, but it takes real strength for it not to break me. And tonight, there's a little crack in the armour when I took a loss.

“And I think you just saw me just upset. And with the speech, I was just speaking about where I come from. I was on the roads, really. Joshua then insisted he has "nothing but respect" for his opponent.

Usyk said: "I didn't feel much at this time when he was a bit frustrated. Just common emotions. It's all good. We just need to communicate a little bit."
