And just like that our year of travel has come to an end. Over the past year we have traveled to 22 countries meeting some of the kindest people and challenging ourselves to things we’ve never done before.
Some of our highlights: Visiting an elephant sanctuary in Thailand (Photo 2). Completing the Ha Giang loop in Vietnam (3). Receiving white scarves symbolizing good luck from local Tibetan people when we helicoptered out of the Langtang Valley in Nepal (4). Summiting the Acatenango volcano to watch Volcán Fuego erupt all night in Antigua, Guatemala (5). Spanish school in San Pedro, Guatemala (6). Dune bashing and riding camels in the Erg Chebbi Dunes, Morocco (7). Traveling with both of our siblings, Sam and Grace (8). Getting PADI certified in the Red Sea (9). And of course, getting engaged in Santorini, Greece (10).
Also, traveling with our friends from college, Davina, Ethan, and Isa. And all of our other friends we made along the way!
We had to go to the hospital 3 times for Matthew’s accidents. Shoutout to our travel insurance, Safety Wing, for covering everything.
All in all, it was the trip of a lifetime and we’re happy we took the risk to sell all of our possessions and dedicate a year to living out of backpacks experiencing the world for ourselves. You should do it too. 😉
Our travel route in order: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Nepal, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Portugal, Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, Cyprus, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Croatia, Italy, and Spain.
We’re already planning our next trip and will keep this account to share future travels!
