I like gin. The problem (actually not so much a problem) is that the global market is flooded with distillers. I always try smaller producers whenever they are recommended by the bartender in front of me, but honestly, there is a lot of gin noise out there to keep up with.

When I find myself someplace where I’m underwhelmed, I stick with what I know. On the Wm Brown Weekly I shared some of my favorite bottles that can be found in the most common of bars or at any local liquor mart. Head to the link in bio for my list of gins that won’t break the bank but will still make magical cocktails.

A New England style preppy at heart, I've worn my share of Madras shirts and shorts during the summer. Ma-DRAS, as it’s correctly pronounced, just refers to a plain weave cloth with at least two colors in an irregular pattern, woven in the state of Madras (now Chennai) with Indian cotton. Most of the Madras used by major fashion brands was probably made by the Original Madras Trading Co, based in New York and Chennai.

Prasan Shah now runs the business his grandfather founded in 1973 when he arrived in New York from Southern India with a trunk full of Madras checks. It is still woven in Madras on a handloom by a single weaver from start to finish, then cut and stitched in their workrooms.

Digging into the Riva myth, the ‘Rolls Royce of the seas,’ your obvious references must be Brigitte Bardot, Gunter Sachs and the atomic mix of Dolce Vita, jet set and Riviera cocktails that splashed off the lens of society photographers like Edward Quinn or Slim Aarons. Surprisingly, though, the brand’s roots are humble, almost vernacular: a shed on the shores of Iseo, a minor northern Italian Lake. There, in the boom years, Carlo Riva set out to transform the family’s shipyard into his own American dream.

More from Paolo Tumminelli’s piece on Riva in Wm Brown Issue 11.

’Evel Kneivel in Flight’ by Ralph Crane, 1971.

American stunt cyclist and daredevil Evel Knievel soars over 17 cars, 1971.
He later broke the car jumping record clearing 19 vehicles (and the World Record for most broken bones in a lifetime).

had been living in his 1982 VW Transporter for a few years before he decided to take it to the Faroe Islands. Nicknamed the ‘maybe Islands’ because you never know what the next hour will bring, these dots of land in the middle of the Atlantic are known for their mercurial weather and miles of empty road. Which makes them perfect for a slow adventure - preferably in an orange-and-white van to duck into when the calm yields to another storm.

Meet Reggie, Stephon, Derek, Elias, Pedro, and Peter, known collectively as .

Team Cozy Boys is a group of guys who like to eat good food, joke around, and look damn good while doing it. A shared love of clothing and New York unites them all, but sincerity and self-awareness is at their core. Each of their diverse backgrounds brings a unique take to the table, and they’ll gas each other up and call each other out on their bu****it at a moment’s notice.

Yesterday on the Wm Brown Weekly’s I shared a few things I’m fixated on this week. A steak house with the largest wine cellar of any restaurant in the world (in a surprising location), a new secret weapon discovered in the test kitchens of Buchinger-Wilhelmi, and the legendary man behind the most viral photograph of a watch I’ve ever shot all at the link in bio.

I’ve been on the hunt for ‘dusties’—vintage spirits like bitters and amaros from the 1950s to the ‘80s—for along time. It’s not just nostalgia. What’s in those bottles is different from their modern versions. You never know where you’ll find them, which appeals to my hunting instincts: it involves a lot of digging through random alimentari and liquor stores all over the world.

When I was hammering out the first issue of Wm Brown I came up with this idea of asking chefs, restaurant owners and food personalities—what is their midnight snack? I sent an email to Chef Ripert and he was swift to reply with this riff on a carbonara. And let me tell you, this is a fool-proof delicious version of the classic. Since so many of you may have missed the first issue, which sold out, I shared the fantastic recipe on the Wm Brown Weekly.

In early 1950s Post-War Europe enthusiasm for motor racing reached a fever pitch as small, relatively affordable, and breathtakingly quick cars came on the scene.

Death-defying adults installed spikes in the tires of their race cars before driving at top speed across the surface of a frozen lake in Zell am See, occasionally with a daring skier being towed behind. It was a spectacular moment in automotive history: zero safety, maximum danger, total excitement.

In 2019 the event finally made its return. talks more on the GP Ice Race which he looks forward to every year in Wm Brown Issue 4.
