Compacting is a process of mechanical compression of fabrics in lengthwise direction, in order to minimize its tendency to shrink during consumer use. The compacting process has little effect on the widthwise shrinkage of the fabric. Compacting is the last finishing process after relaxation or drying and has thus decisive importance for the residual shrinking, the hand and the aspect and the shine of the fabric before cutting and make-up. The compacting process also results in increase in fabric areal density and thickness, and reduction in the overall fabric length yardage. The compacting process was originally devised for woven fabrics but the process of also later on adapted for knitted fabrics. The compacting machine is called a compactor or felt compactor.

মহান একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি, আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস। ১৯৫২ সালের এই দিনে গোটা বিশ্বকে অবাক করে মায়ের ভাষার জন্য রাজপথে বুকের তাজা রক্ত ঢেলে দিয়েছিল এদেশের সূর্য সন্তানরা। তাদের এই নিঃস্বার্থ আত্ব ত্যাগে আমরা পেয়েছি অমৃতসম মায়ের ভাষা, প্রণের ভাষা, গানের ভাষা, আবেগের ভাষা, বাংলা ভাষা। আমরা ভাষা আন্দোলনের সকল বীর সেনাদের স্মরণ করছি সশ্রদ্ধ চিত্তে। একই সাথে¦ একমাত্র মায়ের ভাষার জন্য যারা অকাতরে বিলিয়ে দিয়েছে প্রাণ, যাদের জন্য অবাক গোটা বিশ্ববাসী সেই মহান শহীদদের আত্মার মাগফেরাত কমনা করছি। আজ সারা বিশ্বে বাংলা ভাষাবাসীরা উদযাপন করবে এই দিবসটিকে।

On this day in 1952, the children of the sun of this country shed fresh blood on the streets for their mother tongue, surprising the whole world. It is in this selfless sacrifice of theirs that we have found the language of the mother, the language of love, the language of song, the language of emotion, the Bengali language. We remember all the heroic soldiers of the language movement with reverence. At the same time: I am praying for the forgiveness of the souls of those great martyrs who have given their lives for the sake of their mother tongue. Today Bengali speaking people all over the world will celebrate this day.
