The National Palace of Culture is a building of unique architecture, built in 1981, in accordance with the highest international standards. The largest multifunctional complex offers 15 halls for 8,000 seats, as well as rooms for exhibitions, cocktails, advertising presentations. The halls are equipped with modern appliances. In 2003, the International Association of Palaces of Congresses awarded the National Palace of Culture the title of "World's Second Congress Center". Adjacent to Nevsky Square is the current Hagia Sophia - one of the oldest monuments in Bulgaria, the main Christian church named after the current capital of Bulgaria. There are no more such monuments on Bulgarian soil - this is a unique work of medieval architecture. The cathedral was built in Roman times in the VI or VII centuries. In the 16th century the church was turned into a mosque, but after the Liberation it was consecrated. The current appearance of the building has changed, but experts are trying to recreate the original appearance of the temple. Behind the church is the grave of the Bulgarian writer Ivan Vazov.

The cathedral - the church-monument of St. Alexander Nevsky - is considered one of the symbols of Sophia. The cathedral is the largest Orthodox church in the Balkans, a symbol of Bulgaria's liberation, in memory of Russian soldiers killed in the Russo-Turkish war.
