Malay Uncle sings Cantonese song to cheer up Chinese elderly in hospital

Language is key in ensuring that people feel more connected to one another. When one chooses to learn a new language, it can often promote a sense of unity and lead to a feel-good factor in general.

In the past, we have featured numerous accounts of Malaysians who have brought together a sense of unity and community by embracing and learning a new language. From a TikTok video which featured a Malay woman’s proficiency in Tamil as well as a Malay Mak Cik who learned Cantonese and Tamil in order to talk to her neighbours.

This sense of community was recently shown off via a TikTok video posted by Ivy Neoh which featured a Malay uncle singing a Cantonese song in order to entertain a Chinese grandfather who was staying in the same ward.

In the video which featured a stellar performance by the Malay man, Ivy wrote, “Glad to see people from difference races coming along together. Thank you uncle for entertaining my sick father with a great Cantonese song.”

Janji rezeki yang diterima itu halal..

"Memang ada yang pandang rendah, gelarkan pekerjaan saya 'low class' (kelas bawahan) dan kata ia tidak sesuai dengan saya, namun saya anggap sudah ditakdirkan mencari rezeki dalam bidang ini," kata pengawal keselamatan, Nurul Nazifah Zahari, 23.
Ibu tunggal anak dua itu berkata demikian sebagai reaksi kepada pertanyaan orang mengenai kerjayanya dalam bidang yang dipelopori lelaki.

Bercerita lanjut, Nurul Nazifah yang kini bertugas di Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Gudang Rasau berkata, dia tidak pernah malu hanya kerana mencari rezeki sebagai pengawal keselamatan sebaliknya seronok dengan pekerjaannya itu.

"Apa pun, saya bersyukur kerana ada pekerjaan ketika ramai dibuang kerja akibat pandemik Covid-19," katanya.
Dakwanya, ramai yang memandang hina sebaik tahu dia bekerja sebagai pengawal keselamatan termasuk orang terdekat dengannya, tetapi dia tidak mengambil serius pandangan itu sebaliknya mengambil sudut yang positif.
Katanya, dia hanya mahu aura positif mewarnai kehidupannya bahkan pengawal keselamatan adalah pekerjaan halal yang tidak perlu dipertikaikan sesiapa.

"Itu hakikatnya dan kepada wanita di luar sana yang berminat lakukan pekerjaan ini, teruskan saja. Jangan malu dan persiapkan fizikal serta mental.

Congratulations to 11-year old Maryam Muzamir on her success in winning three gold medals at the 6th International Invention Innovation Competition (iCAN) in Toronto, Canada. The young inventor found a use for seafood shells by creating a sustainable animal feed known as Yam 2.0.

KUANTAN: Every time she had a meal at seafood restaurants here, Maryam Muzamir would notice sea snail (siput sedut) and shrimp shells being disposed of in large quantities.
