Our new term has started and oral arguments are in full swing! Libby likes to sneak over to the courtroom and listen to the arguments but you can watch them online! Links can be found on our website.
In honor of the Queenâs passing, Libby wanted to share a fun British law fact with you. Did you know that DC still has laws on its books that originate from King Edwardâs court, in 1278? Look up D.C. Code 42-1601, dealing with real property. Libby is full of cool facts!

Libby is so proud to live in the historic courthouse! Did you know the building celebrated itâs 200th anniversary in 2020 and was originally DCâs city hall? Whoâs that?? Thatâs mini-Libby!! We decided that a mini-Libby was needed to travel around to other libraries and sites and her first stop? The AALL convention in Denver CO! And a limited run of Libby stickers just arrived. Two people who suggest a cool photo idea for mini-Libby at AALL will be chosen in the next 24 hours and will be sent a Libby sticker. Off to AALL!
While we truly appreciate Libbyâs efforts to access our older dictionaries (they are beautiful!), we shared with her that many public libraries offer FREE access to online versions, like the Oxford English Dictionary. Be sure to check out the online resources your local public library offers and avoid the awkward predicament Libby found herself in. âşď¸ đ
Someone left the copier open and Libby grabbed the opportunity to take a photocopy of her face! We certainly donât encourage this behavior but thankfully Libby was not hurt and she enjoyed sharing her selfies with the other the kik-steps. Have you taken a photocopier selfie scan!?!
A very special intern helped me in the library this week and Libby made sure she helped her as well. Learning how to update pocket parts and loose-leaf treatises is a valuable life skill! Do you have summer interns?
Libby loves it when everyone is included and she especially supports inclusive access to libraries. Did you know D.C. is home to one of the largest pride celebrations in the country? This yearâs Capital Pride parade will take place on June 11th.

Libby is a huge Star Wars fan and she was wondering if any of our opinions refer to the movie? Answer? Yes, two of them! Check these out: Boone v. U.S., 483 A.2d 1135 (1984) and Cardozo v. U.S. 255 A.3d 979 (2021). What about your court? May the 4th be with you!
Libby loves to read and being surrounded by books, with no way to get them down, means she really appreciates it when staff stop by and read to her. And Seth is a patient reader! Do you enjoy reading to others? What a great way to spend time with our friends.
The library held a Peep in the Law library contest for national library week and the entries were great! And the mini-Libbyâs were the best!

Did you know the D.C. St. Patrickâs Day parade used to go right by our historic courthouse? This article from the Washington Post, in 1885, highlights the parade route and City Hall, which is what our courthouse used to be called. Did you know that for over 100 years, DC did not have an official code? Many unofficial versions were used but it was not until March 3, 1901, that Congress officially approved a version of the DC Codeâ31 Stat 1189. Everyone knows the case of Brown v. Board, but Libby wants you to learn about one of the companion casesâright here from D.C. Bolling v. Sharpe was issued the same day as Brown and gave protection to D.C. public school students through an implied protection clause in the 5A. Be sure to check this opinion out and the book Libby is reading about this amazing case.
