Libby loves a good spooky movie and she was trying to recreate a scary hallway photo but she got a little “spooked out” by the other Libby looking back at her! Do you know what movie she was referring to? Happy Halloween! 👻🎃

In honor of the Queen’s passing, Libby wanted to share a fun British law fact with you. Did you know that DC still has laws on its books that originate from King Edward’s court, in 1278? Look up D.C. Code 42-1601, dealing with real property. Libby is full of cool facts!

Libby is so proud to live in the historic courthouse! Did you know the building celebrated it’s 200th anniversary in 2020 and was originally DC’s city hall? Who’s that?? That’s mini-Libby!! We decided that a mini-Libby was needed to travel around to other libraries and sites and her first stop? The AALL convention in Denver CO! And a limited run of Libby stickers just arrived. Two people who suggest a cool photo idea for mini-Libby at AALL will be chosen in the next 24 hours and will be sent a Libby sticker. Off to AALL!

While we truly appreciate Libby’s efforts to access our older dictionaries (they are beautiful!), we shared with her that many public libraries offer FREE access to online versions, like the Oxford English Dictionary. Be sure to check out the online resources your local public library offers and avoid the awkward predicament Libby found herself in. ☺️ 📚

Someone left the copier open and Libby grabbed the opportunity to take a photocopy of her face! We certainly don’t encourage this behavior but thankfully Libby was not hurt and she enjoyed sharing her selfies with the other the kik-steps. Have you taken a photocopier selfie scan!?!

Libby loves it when everyone is included and she especially supports inclusive access to libraries. Did you know D.C. is home to one of the largest pride celebrations in the country? This year’s Capital Pride parade will take place on June 11th.

Did you know the D.C. St. Patrick’s Day parade used to go right by our historic courthouse? This article from the Washington Post, in 1885, highlights the parade route and City Hall, which is what our courthouse used to be called. Did you know that for over 100 years, DC did not have an official code? Many unofficial versions were used but it was not until March 3, 1901, that Congress officially approved a version of the DC Code—31 Stat 1189. Libby was kind enough to show it to us. ☺️ Happy 101st anniversary to our official code! -step

Everyone knows the case of Brown v. Board, but Libby wants you to learn about one of the companion cases—right here from D.C. Bolling v. Sharpe was issued the same day as Brown and gave protection to D.C. public school students through an implied protection clause in the 5A. Be sure to check this opinion out and the book Libby is reading about this amazing case.
