Haven’t posted in way too long.
The school board continues to deny that they should have gotten a facilities assessment to see if they could renovate the current Mitchell high school. In our opinion, they failed to do their due diligence to the Mitchell school district and put themselves above the professionals. Specifically, Dr. Graves, former Mitchell school district superintendent, told us that he didn’t think it was necessary to get a facilities assessment by an engineer.
Would any of us make that kind of decision about whether we can build a new house or renovate by our own knowledge? Absolutely not. We wouldn’t even think about building a new house until we got an assessment to see if we could renovate.
And the amount of capital outlay funds that they had for the school couldn’t even finish the project with gyms and locker rooms. It is irresponsible for them to pass and approve to start building a new high school that does not even include gyms in the locker rooms. They are banking on the bond issue passing. I wonder how much it would’ve cost to renovate or even if that was an option? We will never know.
Look at the 4 You Pages, if you live in the Mitchell district, and you will see the ad that Steve Sibson sponsored. He is a retired accountant and understands the financials. They don’t want you, the Mitchell citizens, to understand the financials. They are in way over their head. This ad is not sponsored by MCP but by Steve Sibson personally.
We do want to commend Terry Aslesen for trying to hold the school board accountable and ask the hard questions that the Mitchell media, Chamber and community have failed to do.
This bond issuing that is coming to a vote on June 6th is a serious issue. Get the facts. And hold the school board accountable.
