Refugee Week 2022: Europe and Refugees

Today, millions of refugees have grasped the reality of Europe with their skin and bones, while billions of people have taken on the role of spectators who have been mesmerized by the media and virtual networks, as well as distracted by every day reality.
Europe is one of the largest arms producers in the world and has colonised and exploited Africa and Asia for years. Thanks to censorship on virtual networks and medias in general that covers the ugly reality of the European continent with all their might. It practically deceives the world. Europe wears the mask of democracy, but under this mask hides refugees sufferings, and allows no one to see these facts with their own eyes.

The first culprit :
Among the countries of Europe, there is a competition as to which country can apply the most cruel treatment to helpless refugees. Today, if we open our eyes, we clearly can see that Britain is taking example of crimes committed by its allies such as Australia and the United States many years ago. Today, Britain is determined not to back down in the face of protests against the rights of asylum activists, and is looking for a way to quietly transfer hundreds or even thousands of refugees to Rwanda, Africa.
Although some of the deported refugees are from the Middle Eastern countries, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc., though a significant number of them happen to be African refugees, they have lost everything in proxy wars with weapons provided by European countries and Britain . They have fled, and now Britain wants to bring them back to the hell that Britain have created on the African continent. Welcome to British Humanitarian Aid.

The second culprit:
In refugee discrimination, there is no country in Europe that has less of a hand in oppression. From the Scandinavian countries that separate their children from refugee families, especially Muslims, to countries like Germany, etc..., which delays the interview and reception of Syrian, Afghan and African refugees in order to accept and prioritise Ukrainian refugees. When Europe is fanning the fire of war in a country, it happens to welcome the war refugees of Ukraine with open arms, but woe to the day when Europe takes off its mask. This happened a long time ago for Afghanistan and in 2015 for the Syrians, and unfortunately the war situation is repeated today for the Ukrainians. Europe is not ashamed to prefer Ukrainian refugees over other refugees because of their color, race, religion, and so on.

The third culprit: The European Coast Guard, so called democracy forces, drowned a refugee ship in the killer waters of the Mediterranean Sea to prevent innocent children from reaching the soil of Europe. European border guards in countries like Croatia are not ashamed of any mistreatment and aggression against helpless refugees because they know that the world will not see these crimes and even if they do, they will not react. When European human rights activists rush at sea to the aid of the refugees , the European countries do not allow their citizens to transport refugees to shore. This is the reality of humanitarian aid in Europe.

Europe has only a beautiful appearance, but it is in fact darker than any soil and land. Europeans have been at war with each other for centuries, but today they have learned to wage wars outside their borders which by consequence have displaced millions of people, and the lives of these refugees are not important to them. The oppression of refugees in the world is so great that the pen is unable to write and describe it to its full extent.
On June 20, world refugee day, we must remember the millions of homeless people who are wandering in the world, especially in Europe.
We hope humanity wakes up and takes its responsibility.
At this date there are 90 millions refugees and displaced people in the world.

Maqshosh letter to the world to condemn British government inhuman act for sending refugees to Rwanda
These days, while Europe, including Britain, is trying to show the world a good face in supporting human rights and refugees by accepting Ukrainian refugees, but in the same time in Europe, from Greece toGermany and Britain, it is very cruel and Unacceptable cycle of injustice and inhuman handling when it come to refugees ,
thousands of helpless refugees are stake in the cold in hunger .
Rwandan government has officially announced that it has signed an agreement with Britain to transfer asylum seekers from various countries entering the UK through the English Channel to Rwanda .
This shameless act has been done in the past by countries like Australia. However, the international community, international media and human rights organizations have long been silent on these crimes .
But silence definitely means supporting the oppressors.
Maqshosh free media strongly condemns this inhumane act.
We strongly protest against this and call on human rights organizations and humanitarian organizations to defend the rights of defenseless refugees without racial, religious or geographical discrimination.
All human beings have equal rights under the laws of humanity and international law.

Afghanistan is a country in the heart Asia. Mostly ravaged by war. However today wherever the Afghan people are residing Afghanistan still lives!

There is just one Afghanistan but in every Afghan immigrant and refugee there is a different memory of their homeland. In the past the thought was that only those who loved their homeland lived in it. However today the new generation of Afghans love Afghanistan without living in their country or sometimes having ever seen it. Afghans can adapt to any country their hosted in but we will never find another Afghanistan.
Maqshosh reporter has interviewed Ms. Nagin Ravand . She is a student and football coach in Denmark. She was born in Afghanistan and raised in Denmark.
In this interview we talked about her motivation that why she helped the Afghan people, Also Football Charity Cup for Afghanistan and her life experiences as an Afghan in Denmark.

MA: Since you have been away from Afghanistan for years, what motivates you to stay in touch with the Afghan people?
My biggest motivation is the fact that my parents and I are from Afghanistan. My country is always in my heart and blood. Although I am not physically in Afghanistan, and although I grew up outside of Afghanistan, it still lives strongly in my heart.

Afghan women: living in a political laboratory

For most Afghans, the last 20 years has felt like an eternity. Add the 'Taliban 1.0' years and the civil conflict before that, and the Russian occupation, and it seems somehow more than twice as long. The violent uncertainties of warlordism and invasion have for a long time prevented significant reform of the country's sexual politics. Despite the renewed cosmopolitanism under the Karzai and Ghani governments, and the 'nation-building' efforts of Western powers, 3.7 million Afghan children remain out of school. In other words, more than a third of Afghan children lack formal education. Of that figure, 60 per cent are girls.
Progress has been made in education since the 2000s, but the money spent by the United States on war-making could have paid for five years of education at Roedean, the top English girls' public school, for every single girl in Afghanistan. You'd still have $500 billion change rattling around in your pocket.
There has however been one very major change in Afghan society: the turning of the generations. Today's youth cohort is very different. A new generation of Afghan girls believe that women have an extended role to play in their society, and are unwilling to give up the precious gains they have struggled for in the last two decades.
The Afghan education system has a lot of responsibility on its shoulders. It needs to produce outstanding outcomes to overturn the years of neglect and insecurity. The youth of Afghanistan need to be able to access the best universities in the world to enable them to return and build their state.
To explore these themes in more detail, Maqshosh chief correspondent Ahmad Soheil Ahmadi spoke with women's education activist Rita Anwari Soltani. Ms. Soltani, who now lives in Australia, is the founding director of Women Empowerment and Leadership in Australia, an organization dedicated to the welfare of women, and has worked to improve educational opportunities for Afghans as well as mobilizing Australia's Afghan community to support their compatriots.
MQ: As an Afghan woman living in Australia, what made you decide to become a civic and social activist, and what valuable experiences have you had over the years?
I have been active in civil society for ten years. Back then, when I was in college, I worked with people from many different countries, not just Afghans. I could see that our projects were making a positive difference in their lives. However, I always dreamed of doing something for Afghanistan specifically by helping Afghan students to study in Australia. So, in 2017 I introduced an Australian diploma education course in Afghanistan to help Afghans prepare at home for studying here in Australia.

Afghans are being repatriated to a war zone

Refugee activist Ahmad Arash Bayat, who assists asylum seekers in Greece and across Europe, tells Maqshosh chief correspondent Ahmad Soheil Ahmadi of his fears for Afghan deportees sent back to a highly unstable Afghanistan riven with worsening violence.
MQ: Thank you Mr. Bayat for speaking with us here at Maqshosh. How far do the images and news published in the media about migration reflect your assessment of the reality of immigration and asylum?
The media do not reflect the reality of the situation inside the camps because all countries place a lot of restrictions on journalists' coverage. They are not allowed by the authorities to enter the refugee camps. Reporters' only option is to take pictures from behind fences and walls, which can never reflect the truth of what is happening within.
Inside the camps there is a lot of real misfortune and misery that is unseen. For example, in a camp that built for seven thousand people, but housing fifteen to twenty thousand people, and with no more than ten or twenty toilets and baths, you can surely imagine how awful it is. Unfortunately, these facts are not revealed to the public.

The 500. Balloons and bombs.
Back to Palestine, where a new Israeli government shows it's business as usual: Insult the occupied to their faces with a rabid fundamentalist supremacy march, wait for Palestinians to respond, them bomb Gaza.
A Millennial generation unburdened by Holocaust guilt are seeing the conflict for what it is: old-style settler colonialism aimed at total subjugation of the indigenous population.

We're still building our new website. In the meantime, an interview with respected Hazara community leader Mohammed Akram Gizabi, who tells Ahmad Soheil Ahmadi of his concerns about media freedom in Afghanistan: "In the last one or two years, the press has become very restrained and self-censored. Journalists have been threatened and assassinated. Targeted assassinations have forced journalists to flee the country."

This week's The 500. Denmark and 'offshoring' refugees.
Politicians don't want to apprehend the reality that future migrant flows are unpredictable and states should show as much solidarity as they can in a world as shrunken as ours. In their pusillanimity they think they can't sell empathy to voters (spoiler alert: they could if they were smart).
They should know this: the old way of doing things is no longer okay. The West can't simply 'offshore' all its problems for ever. It already sends half its trash and all its wars to states unable to pay the entry fee required for basic respect in the international community.

Greece starts vaccination campaign at facilities for asylum seekers

According to the info migrants, A large-scale COVID vaccination drive for asylum seekers has started on three Greek Aegean Islands. In Europe, some migrant populations are prone to "low vaccine uptake," according to a new study.
On Thursday (June 3), Greek authorities launched a vaccination campaign for tens of thousands of asylum seekers living in government-run facilities. People living in accommodation centers on the islands of Le**os, Chios and Samos in the Aegean Sea were the first to be vaccinated.
According to officials with the Greek Health Ministry, the program used the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Later this week, the program is supposed to be rolled out on other Greek islands and the mainland, the officials added.

This week's The 500: Covid-19 and the refugee population.
"Those fleeing conflict and climate blight are a forgotten meta-population who should be front and centre in our humanitarian efforts. They personify our failures and malignancies as a species fatally attracted to power, and wealth, and ideologies that make us surrender our humanity. The violent among us destroy living communities as well as the ecology gracious enough to host us. The corrupt and the violent will in the end make all of us refugees."

This week's The 500.
Instead of rich nations focusing on killing Islamic militants in Africa, they should be tackling the systemic problems of poverty, disenfranchisement, corruption, and climate change that are driving radicalization across the continent.
A new report from the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre counts 55,000,000 people displaced across the world in 2020. If substantive action isn't taken, Covid-19, climate change, and militant violence will lead to ever larger waves of attempted migration to Europe.

This week's The 500: Killing the messengers.
Thousands of journalists have been killed since 1990, and in 90 per cent of cases with impunity. Media networks are now viewed as legitimate targets of war, contrary to international law. Hell, Dubya wanted to bomb Doha back in 2003 to take Al Jazeera off the air. What's been going on?

This week's The 500 on the violence in Israel, where militancy on both sides is more entrenched than ever. Meanwhile, Israel is colonizing the West Bank bite by bite, and with impunity. The cycle continues as the world pretends to wring its hands. Israel's defence minister Benny Gantz assures that 'peace and quiet' will return 'in the long run', and Joe Biden mumbles that he hopes 'Bibi' will end the violence 'sooner rather than later'.
