Even as the BJP and the RSS debate the timing of Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa's probable exit, the efforts are underway to find a replacement, taking into account the Lingayat community's sentiments. The BJP has begun looking for a leader who can not only keep the flock together but also maintain the delicate Lingayat-Vokkaliga caste equation in the state.
Many leaders from Karnataka, including at least two who are in the running for the top post, were spotted in the capital in the last few days trying to meet senior leaders in the BJP, such as national (organisation) secretary BL Santhosh, and also some general secretaries.
Additionally, a host of experts and RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) functionaries were also summoned by the national leadership for inputs on the probables and the possible fallout of an appointment.
While it is understood that the party has looked at probables from the Lingayat community, it has also made a note of seasoned politicians from other castes and dependable faces with state-wide acceptability who can "mainly enthuse the hindutva vote and keep the house in order".
