In an interview with BBC Radio 4, Academy Award winner Michael Caine has announced he is officially retired from the world of acting at the age of 90, his last film being Oliver Parker’s “The Great Escaper” (2023).

Ending a 70 year career, Caine has starred in over 100 British and American films, receiving Academy Awards for his portrayals in "Hannah and Her Sisters" (1986) and "The Cider House Rules" (1999). For the last decade, he has been part of several different film projects under director Christopher Nolan, such as 'Interstellar' (2014) and ‘TENET’ (2020). For DC fans, Michael Caine played the role of Alfred Pennyworth in Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy in “Batman Begins” (2005), “The Dark Knight” (2008) and “The Dark Knight Rises” (2012). As the loyal butler who becomes young Bruce Wayne's (Christian Bale) caretaker after the death of his parents Thomas and Martha Wayne, Nolan chose Caine because he felt he would present the 'foster father' element that Alfred possesses in Batman comics, film and media spanning over 50 years. With Caine's additional Special Air Service background to the character, he was the Alfred that was strong enough to help Bruce in his first years as the Batman and a decade past when he faced his biggest challenge, what comes with having such a haunting dual identity. Caine’s timeless career and memorable portrayals is forever cherished and will be for generations to come.🦇🎥

Watched The Shape of Water last night. Quite enjoyable but I don't think it lived up to the hype it got when it first came out. Very much just a beauty and the beast film but with the roles reversed, but not an overly deep film. Still an interesting watch.

DO NOT watch the Chariot (2022)! It pulled me in with its amazing synopsis, but turned into bizarre, incoherent drivel. They say it's a movie about reincarnation but honestly I don't think I could tell you it was about that. I don't think it made a point about anything. Watch at your own risk of being confused and mad!

Finally got around to watching the rebooted Tomb Raider (film). It's no Angelina Jolie, but it was still okay. I probably would have liked more Sass and puzzles from the film though. It was still decent but just a bit generic with not a lot standing out sadly. Casting was good though I will say.

Watched the (2017) film. I swear that only came out 3 years ago though...
Was surprisingly good. Not as campy as the show, they made it quite edgy but good casting and diversity, fairly fun to put on in the background.

Rant alert
So with all the news and drama circling around the Witcher show, it's writers, directors and Henry Cavills departure I feel I need to lament that it's rather poor form how badly Netflix have treated the show, the source material and Henry Cavill.

Ever since season 2 there were concerns with the Witcher show not being faithful to the source material (much like most book to tv/movie adaptations). When the writers were confronted with these concerns, rather than taking on feedback from fan or reviewers they blame a simplistic audience (https://www.escapistmagazine.com/the-witcher-producer-says-americans-are-to-blame-for-plot-simplifications/?utm_source=pushly) or their staff just straight out dispising the source material (https://www.glitched.online/henry-cavill-departs-the-witcher-after-netflix-writers-reportedly-mock-source-material/)

It's such a shame to see this occur. When you have a perfect casting actors passionate about the source material and wanting to be a true representation of the characters in the book. Why not utilise that and promote a true and respectful adaptation.
I'm not saying that you can't change things from the book. I mean LOTR is a prime example. But if you are going to change things it needs to be better!

Don't change things for change sake.

Hell even Twilight sold well and I'd say that was a solid book to movie adaptation. That was widely successful even if it was just a teen romance story.

My biggest worry coming up is the Avatar the last airbender live action show, particularly as the original creators have left Netflix because of creative differences (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/avatar-last-airbender-creators-exit-netflix-adaptation-1307085/)

So antipate another post when that gets released... least we have the perfect Avatar animated show regardless.
