The Hidden Gratification Notwithstanding of Pandemic
By: Kristle Lorraine M. Manuel

A smile is a smile. A young mother in the squatter area smiles demurely every day with her suckling child. Her other child is asking for a peso to buy a lollipop. It seems like she’s trying to find a penny in her pocket. She keeps looking for a single penny but nothing. This mother smiles and said, “don’t worry my dear, next time we will buy your lollipop”. This little angel smiles back and said “that’s okay mom, I can wait”. At that time, the pandemic is extremely widespread. You can see them; despite the pandemic, they were still happy and smiling.
Actually, there is a saying that the most beautiful eyes have cried the most tears, and the most beautiful hearts have suffered the most pain. A beautiful example of this is our mothers. A mother works hard to develop our family and nourish it. She puts aside herself to take care of the family. The world is full of beautiful and generous people who care for others and also love them unconditionally and in a true sense, serve humanity. It should be kept in mind that each and every person we see suffers from some problem or the other. This doesn’t mean that we will leave everything and just sit and complain. It should be kept in mind that we are the result of our own actions, and we should always try to put a positive outlook and smile even in negative situations.

Let’s Go Verdant Every Day

By: Roan M. Hapson

Most of us love green. It calms the senses. It is one of the coolest colors of the rainbow. It is universally associated with nature, linked as it is to grass, plants, and trees. It also represents growth and renewal, being the color of spring and rebirth. Another association is “getting the green light” to go ahead, giving it an association with taking action. Because of that, it is the perfect color for healing and meditation as it often helps one get connected with self and encourages positive thoughts. Green is the color of the vegetation. It represents nature, growth, fertility, and mother earth. The following are simple and witty acts of going green.
• Give away old clothing.
• Plant trees and let them grow.
• Open the windows for fresh air.
• Never throw waste into water waste.
• Let the 5R’s become a part of your life.
• Do not keep the refrigerator always open.
• Clean water is everybody’s responsibility.
• Containers that are reusable are better than disposables.
• Be part of the solution to save the Earth from destruction.
• Properly dispose of household products that are hazardous to pets and us.
Nourishing, caring, and love is our main duty and responsibility to keep our planet verdant every day.

By: James Riel C. Nuñez
The Schools Division of Batangas City conducted the “Search for Best Gulayan sa Paaralan Program”. In support of the DepEd memorandum, Pallocan East Elementary School profoundly planned to start this program.
But how does Pallocan East Elementary School prepare its students, teachers, stakeholders, parents, and the community for having a wonderful Gulayan sa Tahanan at Paaralan? And what are the impacts of this program on the community, school, and the people surrounding it despite the pandemic?
The coordinator (Mrs. Monette Driz) and the Chairman (Mrs. Annalyn Ebora) of this program really performed well to achieve the needs for the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program. They initiated practices in planning solutions that will help for the said program. They invented projects, innovations, searched for sponsors, invited stakeholders, and coordinated with the parents to upgrade and support this Program. These initiatives may have propped up to maximize and reach out to all the resources needed.
PEES hit the positive impact such as addressing malnutrition and health in times of pandemic, strengthening the consciousness on the importance of organic gardening in keeping a healthy body.
Gulayan sa Paaralan will be a continuous program of PEES because it is a great expedient to learners and their families. These contextualized projects will remain the flagship of the school in order to sustain the basic necessity of food thus ensuring progress and development.
