🌟 Let's Talk About Grief Podcast – A Farewell Note 🌟

With a bittersweet feeling, we announce that the curtain will drop on the beloved "Let's Talk About Grief" podcast. Over the years, this podcast has provided a platform for heartfelt discussions, insightful guest interviews, and a community of support for those navigating the complexities of grief.
Reflecting on Our Journey
Before we bid adieu, let's revisit the top-performing guest interviews, that have captured our hearts and minds. I must acknowledge that not all creations resonate equally with our audience's interests, which has been a valuable lesson for me.
While reflecting on the interviews we conducted and produced, I was intrigued to discover which episodes garnered the most downloads. Perhaps episodes focusing on child loss or those offering tools and roadmaps. However, I was delightfully surprised to find a diverse selection of the most popular episodes, as highlighted below
Dr. Sarah Kerr, Death Doula - A Journey of Soul Integration
In one of our most cherished episodes, we explored the intriguing work of Dr. Sarah Kerr, a renowned death doula. Her insights into the necessity of soul integration during times of loss provide a unique perspective on moving forward. This interview remains a favourite among our listeners, as Dr. Kerr’s empathetic approach resonates deeply with anyone navigating the complexities of grief. Discover more about this transformative conversation and why it continues to captivate audiences.
Collin Kingsmill - Embracing a Planned Passing
Collin Kingsmill's story is one of resilience and renewal following the planned passing of his mother in Switzerland, where assisted death has long been an option. Initially overwhelmed by the reality of her choice, Collin's journey through grief was challenging. Yet, his story concludes on a hopeful note as he finds a path to a life he never anticipated. His candid reflections provide valuable insights into finding peace amid profound loss.
Prof David Roberts & Rev Patty Furino – When Science & Spirituality Come Together
Our episode featuring Dave recounts a remarkable transformation. Once a psychology professor focused on addictions, Dave's world was irrevocably altered by the loss of his daughter. His encounter with Patty, an interfaith minister, catalyzed a profound shift in his understanding of grief and spirituality. Their meeting reframed Dave's journey and transformed his professional direction, allowing him to confront his grief with a deeper spiritual insight. A New Perspective of Death & Grief is Born - Tune in to this episode to discover how a meeting of minds can profoundly change lives.
Dr. Mary Lamia - Unveiling the Facets of Grief
In a candid "Kitchen Table" discussion, Dr. Mary Lamia and I explored the many dimensions of grief, a universal yet often avoided topic. Dr. Lamia, a leading voice in the field, challenges the discomfort surrounding grief and highlights how embracing it can lead to a more fulfilling life. Our conversation flows with ease and offers profound insights into this misunderstood emotional journey. You are invited to explore how embracing grief can profoundly transform your life.
Sherrie Dunlevy - Navigating Loss with Purpose
Rounding out our top stories is the inspiring journey of Sherrie Dunlevy. As a mother, pet owner, and daughter who has experienced significant loss, Sherrie shares her path from grief to healing. A TV producer, author, grief coach, and my co-host on Clubhouse, Sherrie's story is a testament to the power of choice in the face of loss. Her belief that one can choose to heal rather than remain a victim of circumstances offers a beacon of hope to all who listen.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our guests who have generously shared their experiences and stories throughout our time on air, illuminating their journeys through grief. Each conversation stands as a powerful testament to the human spirit's incredible capacity for growth and healing. We invite you to listen to these episodes, embrace the narratives shared, and discover your own path to understanding and peace.
I'm Anne DeButte your host, signing off for now. I can share that there is one more interview to be shared with you, dear listeners. Please subscribe to the show and you'll be notified when this final episode drops.

Episode 107 will drop next weekend, bringing down the curtain on my guest's grief stories. It has been a tremendous journey and rewarding as I connected with many of my guests and even met them in person. There will be one more to complete my Legacy Project to help others understand their experiences and to lend hope that others have walked the path no one wants to follow. One we all will take at some point in our life.

Why am I doing this after all these years? Dear listeners and fellow travellers I hope you'll tune in to hear it.

In the meantime, here are a few to support you in our challenging times. Burnout and stress remain and possibly will as our lives continue their frenetic pace. Slowing down, self-love appears to support. Here's Dr. Natalie Feyman, a veterinarian sharing

Have you heard?
We completed our 100th Interview!

Did you know – Clutter speaks?

We dove into the world of clutter with our 100th guest recently. It was fascinating, we’re emotionally attached it seems, and it hides things in our relationships, and shows up to emotionally support us.

The best part is that there isn’t always physical clutter around us. I learnt I have a system’s clutter issue – who knew!

If you’re the one in charge of clearing away your parent's lives after they’ve died. Instead of packing it all up into boxes and storing it in the basement or renting additional storage, listen to Star’s wisdom.

We even discussed how to speak to any hoarders in your life – get curious, no more shaming!

For anyone listening to this episode, Star has offered you a FREE book that she has written about this. Called "Why the F* #@ Am I Not Organized?"

It's Springtime still - begin by uncluttering, first, listen to discover your genius.

This picture was taken in 1968 from Space, Apollo 8 mission of Earthrise. 18 months later the first Earth Day was born of environmental awareness and activism. Time to recognize what the crew said back then. How fragile our earth is. How colourful it looked in contrast to the moon, grey, black and white full of craters.....

More than 50 years after it was shot, Earthrise continues to be seen as one of the most iconic environmental photographs ever taken.

Silent Grievers
Death, Divorce & Major Loss suck
Valentine’s Day is looming…
Another reminder of what or who you don’t have in your life.
I get it I’ve experienced them all over the years
What do you do when your birthday falls on a Day when the world celebrates?

Head for the hills, pull the covers up and wait until the day passes? Tried that also, hint… it doesn't work

Tomorrow is indeed my birthday. It’s the time of year, I prepare my clients for also. It’s a time when the old wounds reappear. I mention this only to bring awareness to the corporate world and/or anyone working with others. Please be aware of and be sensitive to your colleagues and friends these days. They’re crying silently in the bathroom, hiding in the back, or missing altogether.

No need to fix anything, instead let yourself acknowledge how hard it must be for them, and let them know you care enough and are brave enough to mention their person not in their life.

This is what our silent grievers need now. Connection, kindness and knowing they matter. Love for self, for others and for the situation - It's what we all want really!

The Winter Solstice – what does it mean for you?

Do you care, I possibly didn’t in my younger years, now much older, but young at heart I’m learning to work with the rhythms of nature, the solstice has become a yardstick for me. A time to turn inwards and reflect?

I truly love winter, the darker days, closing out the world early and turning on the lights, allowing the warmth to settle in. Learning to slow down and retreat has become something I relish.

The Solstice also reminds me that we’re getting closer to the main holiday Christmas and nostalgia settled in this year. I became curious thinking about what the holidays meant to me. I wanted to feel what that was. What is the essence of the holidays?

That opened the way for bigger questions to enter. Also, it was a great conversation with Carl Nassar that prompted a deeper exploration of this time of year. Isn't it supposed to be the happiest time of the year filled with lights and holiday cheer, except for many especially those grieving or have loved ones overseas or reeling from the death of a colleague or friend in the workplace?

To answer the question, I turned to another friend of the show, Matthew Brackett (PCC, MA, MPS Psych. of Leadership) and you can listen to our conversation coming soon at the weekend.

In the meantime, I’d love to know what this time of year means to you.

If you're curious about Carl's conversation you'll find it here.

Wearing too many hats!

This year I've done triple duty. Not only grief coaching, I became a student in a year-long Positive Intelligence program alongside hosting my Grief show.

So my apologies as I've been absent for a wee bit and not posting my amazing guest shares as I normally have. I love to do this as my way of supporting you and hopefully, others who may be grieving a loss and listening to our words of hope and encouragement.

Since my last post, I'm thrilled to say I've onboarded my allotted number of clients to move forward in my desire to become a certified Positive Intelligence coach.

I'm now practicing what I teach my clients in my PI Mental Fitness Course, the importance of daily PQ gym practice. It's easy and only 12 mins a day, ah the difference in the ease and flow the day takes on as I swat away the pesky moments. Difficult clients - no problem they become my greatest teachers. People not showing up - wonderful moments of R n R for me or time for a
cuppa or time for me to create.

If you'd like to know please get in touch, would be thrilled to share this program as it truly changed my life for the better!

Halloween, when the veil thins and all things ghostly are about!
This was the day our mum chose to leave her body, she died in the arms of her caregiver getting her ready for bed. It was peaceful, she looked peaceful when we arrived minutes after she'd died.
You'd think Halloween would be a huge trigger for me, a reminder of our mother's death. Yes, in the beginning, it was, I refused to have anything to do with the day. Then I realized a) mum would have been cross and would've told me to Stop It. b) it was the best possible day for mum to leave us. She loved fun, children and chocolate, how could I not honour her memory, so now instead of sadness, her memory brings joy as I now think of her.

With all the negative news out there, it's nice to see some positivity. I'm so glad that I can keep in touch with my friends and family on Facebook – it makes me feel connected despite being far away. A big thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible! :)

Had a discussion with a coach with 25 years of expertise, a podcast host and an ordained minister, Donna Tashjian. We spoke about how her life changed at 17. She had a choice and with the support of her faith, she chose to change her mindset and now teaches workshops on how others can change their mindset and turn their Baggage into Luggage.
Here's what we discussed

I'm always amazed at how resilient humans are in overcoming trauma and failed relationships. My recent guest Susan Gold had a successful career on the outside however her inside world wasn't working so well. We often think about how wonderful others' lives are but are they really?
How did this successful business woman who was once Barbara Walters' personal trainer and convinced Andy Warhol to do a commercial, find herself living in the unfinished part of her home while the couple was divorcing?

In case you missed Day #1 In this week of celebrating 75 interviews for the Podcast, I'm going back to the beginning when I reached out and asked to interview, author, and journalist Kevin Toolis about his new book My Father's Wake: How the Irish Teach Us to Live, Love and Die - This is #1. Being from the UK, I knew and had heard about Irish Wakes, but had personally never attended one. I was fascinated when I heard Kevin share, that in Ireland in one small town, the death announcement would be made on the radio. People from miles around would go and honour the dead person and lend comfort and support to the family. Often Kevin, said there would be the keening women a traditional form of vocal lament and mourning for the dead to help the family and others cry or weep. Our time together was over Skype and lasted 90 mins. I was fascinated by his story. Being a novice editor I cut the interview down into 3 sections - WHY because I didn't think people would listen to a Podcast for that length of time. Not realizing most people just pause and then return. I did say this was the first official interview of my Podcast career with so much to learn. Kevin was so gracious and I appreciated our time together. To listen to Kevin's

In this week of celebrating 75 interviews. Here's my first, I reached out and asked. Terrified as I do so that the answer would be No. Then I recalled the answer is always No unless you ask. Ask I did, and Kevin Toolis graciously spent 90 mins over Skype in those days chatting to me a very novice Podcast host.
Here's his TEDX talk on why we need to demystify grief https://www.tedmed.com/talks/show?id=771245

How do you learn to live again when your only child is murdered by someone you once loved? This was one of the hardest interviews I did recently, with our guest Michelle Hord and I'm deeply honoured she trusted me to share her story with you the listeners. Michelle is a media exec and producer.

As a new grad Michelle found herself producing on the show America's Most Wanted and never dreamt as she sat with families and listened to their stories she'd be on the other side of the yellow tape. Michelle's story is devastating, heartbreaking and unimaginable to say the least. However, despite her grief being so public, she found strength through her faith and support from others around her. She found her other side of Yet and has built an amazing Legacy for her daughter Gabrielle in her memory, Gabrielle's Wings. Her full story can be found in her book The Other Side of Yet: Finding Light in the Midst of Darkness or listen to Michelle as she shares her story. https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/lets-talk-about-grief-with-anne/id1435084694?i=1000625752112
