Taniya Nayak got into design because of Vern Yip and the TV show Trading Spaces! Her old friend joins her for a deep discussion on how being true to yourself can open up a world of opportunities.

Vern started as a pre-med student because he didn't want to let his parents down, who moved from Hong Kong to the US for better opportunities for Vern. But architecture was always his passion, and Vern found his genuine self as he followed his passion.

Meet our guest, Loren Ruch, on this weeks episode of The Break with Taniya Nayak!

Loren Ruch is the Group Senior Vice President of Development and Production for HGTV where he oversees the programming and development team
responsible for all of their hit programs including Celebrity IOU, A Very Brady Renovation, Property Brothers: Forever Home, My Lottery Dream Home, Flip or Flop and hundreds more.

Prior to this role, Loren spent 13 years managing teams and creating content across many of the Discovery networks including HGTV, Food Network, Travel Channel, DIY Network, Cooking Channel, and Great American Country. Loren spent ten years at Fox’s Good Day LA and the nationally syndicated Good Day Live where he was the recipient of five Emmy awards for his team’s work.

He started his career in daytime talk and game shows including Home & Family, Love Connection and Family Feud. You may recognize Loren from his Discovery+ series HGTV House Party where he hosts and interviews celebrities. He lives with his husband David in Manhattan.

Loren Ruch is our newest guest on this week’s episode of The Break!

As senior VP of Programming and Development at HGTV, Loren oversees the production team that comes up with concepts for, or takes pitches for new shows on the network. He then oversees them during the development phase, through to the pilot episode, and then if all goes well to a series. Ever wonder what a guy like Loren looks for in a pitch for a new show? He'll tell you!

Loren tells a hilarious story about his appearance on Love Connection (it never aired, sorry!) before he worked there, and also opens up about how hard bullying was on him, having endured years of it himself as a child. With great support from his family, Loren was able to strive for the things he wanted in life. He says now that "playing the part of what I should be in my career got me where I am today".

Maneet Chauhan is an award-winning chef, author, television personality, and founding partner and president of Morph Hospitality Group in Nashville, Tennessee. She is a recipient of the 2012 James Beard Foundation Broadcast Media Award for her role as a permanent judge on Food Network’s “Chopped.”

In addition to judging roles on Food Network, Maneet also competes at the highest level and most recently won Guy Fieri's Tournament of Champions II, where she was able to donate winnings of $40,000 to help different restaurants survive the pandemic.
