For the sake of maintaining a professional appearance, I'm addressing this without screenshots or names. And while I am willing to bet that this was likely a spam account troll, I want to bring the situation up regardless. At no point will I ever make something in exchange for "exposure." I know my worth, and what my art is worth. I am not the best artist out there, nor am I famous. And that's okay. I'm where I think I deserve to be, this isn't my full-time job but it does supplement my income.
It's inexplicably disrespectful to ask someone for free product in exchange for exposure, regardless of how big your following is. You wouldn't go to McDonald's and ask for a free meal for a shoutout, why do it to artists? Is the regard and respect for us so small that even the product we work hard to create that paying for it is unimaginable?
Unless we are both creating something for each other, like an art4art collab, I want no part in it. I gain nothing from "exposure." I refuse to be taken advantage of. My prices are fair for the quality of art I produce.
Thank you,
Viv.
