PFNHS Green Ink Chronicles An online counterpart of Green Ink Chronicles, the Official English Student Publication of PFNHS. It is the start of our training. STRIVE. That's why we prevail.

GIC Story: A Relentless JOURNey

We have come a long way together. Every piece of paper is our shoe, every drop of ink is our fuel, every unique story is our wing, and everything that has to be told will be our goal. Indeed, each of us has encountered tough days to face and embrace --- as countless obstacles tried to block us on the way. We, the campus journalists of GIC, remind ourselves with one

thing --- to desire not just to win every competition and reach every finish line but to learn from every struggle to not step back so we can achieve our greater goal. We will always be READY, SET, and GO for a relentless JOURNey! READY
It was three oโ€™clock in the afternoon when the iconic bell sound awakened Paradisian souls, thinking that they have just reached their finish lines for the day but it's not the case for us. We immediately packed our bags and prepared ourselves again, for we were just getting ready for another lap to run. We started from weekdays, adjusted it to three days a week until it became two days. We consume the rest of our day in packing new learnings to help us in our JOURNey. It is the time when we unconsciously "emerge" as we improve in writing, revising, editing, capturing, drawing, brainstorming and all the other journalistic tasks repeatedly. We underwent trainings and seminars to be able to learn all the ways, styles, and categories of writing. Time passed and we were transformed to be the greatest athlete of ourselves. Our SPAs guided us and brought out the best in us to emerge as responsible campus journalists. SET
In our run, we have obstacles as our luggage. We had our 'stops' just like any other high school student. We started with the number of 14 but only eight stayed. We had our frustrations and desperations due to a lot of responsibilities to carry as students and journalists that we sometimes fail to juggle. But, these didn't easily strip off our aspirations to serve the people. Our eagerness to write helped us to continue every single day. We weren't taught to merely cry like a dog battered in the street. We echo the voice of the voiceless and this will be our 'undying passion'. As we take the next step in our JOURNey, Ma'am Imelda Montes, retired English Department head, decided to give a name for the aspiring journalists like us to be recognized. This was the birth of Green Ink Chronicles in the S.Y. 2017-2018 with a tagline "EMERGE. PREVAIL.", as suggested by Mr. Jorell Finez, a former GIC sports writer. The newsletter version, PFNHS Express back then, was initiated by Miyaka Rhinoa Reyes until finally, the first publication of GIC was made and spearheaded by Editor-In-Chief Hana Coyoca in the school year 2017-2018 while Jobelle Morato and D Jay Love Moreno took charge in the following years. GO
We strive but it will be never enough. We have reached a lot of milestones, a lot of first times, and a lot of achievements for running the GIC in three years and more. We have gone through a lot of obstacles but here we are, still going through in and outside of the campus. We prevail through our service and extend it in social media. Since we only publish the school newspaper once a year and not all news will be included there, this page was created-a platform used to update all Paradisians whenever there's a breaking news in our school and other important announcements. We never stopped, we just pause for a while, rest, and GO again. That's the story behind the lotus which represents the GIC. Just like a lotus, we managed to bloom gracefully inspite of coming from a seed that grew in a mud from a troubled water in a river. Every drop of our tears from hardships became a way of giving and refilling the colors to our passionโ€”like an ink that fades and runs out in some hard times. READY, SET, GO! Then a bang from a gun has shot, signaling to start a new marathon for us to run, a new JOURNey. There's no stepping back once we set our goals and go for it. We are now READY enough to serve not just in our school, PFNHS, but also for the public. We are SET to be a journalist in our own right once and forever, and we will GO with the package of learnings, not with the luggage of obstacles. We are now on the march, running for the people and leading for the truth. News has no rest and so we'll continue. There will be no more finish line for us to stop, just new laps to restart.

โ€œThe purpose in a manโ€™s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.โ€
Proverbs 20:5

Life often feels like navigating deep waters, doesnโ€™t it? We all have hidden depths within our heartsโ€”dreams, fears, and purposes that arenโ€™t always visible on the surface. Proverbs 20:5 reminds us that understanding is the key to unlocking these hidden depths, both in ourselves and in others.

Think about your own heart for a moment. What lies beneath the surface? What dreams are waiting to be discovered? What fears are holding you back? It takes courage and introspection to draw these things outโ€”to truly understand ourselves.

Now consider those around youโ€”your family, friends, and colleagues. Each person carries a unique story, a wealth of experiences that shape who they are. Yet often, these stories remain hidden, like water in a deep well. It is through genuine connection, empathy, and a willingness to listen that we can draw out the purpose in anotherโ€™s heart.

Let us strive to be people of understandingโ€”those who take the time to delve deeper, to ask meaningful questions, and to truly listen to the answers. Let us be the ones who draw out the best in ourselves and in others, bringing light and purpose to the world around us.

"The sluggard does not plow in the autumn; he will seek at harvest and have nothing."
Proverbs 20:4

When pursuing personal goals, this proverb serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of diligence and timely action.

Individuals must resist the urge to procrastinate or become complacent. Now is the time to invest effort and energy into the necessary preparations, whether it's acquiring new skills, building a network, or developing a strategic plan.

Delaying action will lead to disappointment when the "harvest" arrives, the opportunity to achieve the goal is at hand, but the necessary groundwork has not been laid. Those who fail to "plow" by preparing and working diligently will find themselves unprepared and unable to seize the moment.

This proverb encourages us to take responsibility for our aspirations and to commit to the hard work required for success. It reminds us that consistent effort and timely preparation are essential for turning dreams into reality.

Proverbs 20:4 urges us to act now, to "plow" with dedication and foresight, so that we may reap the rewards of our efforts and achieve our desired outcomes.

โ€œIt is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling.โ€
Proverbs 20:3

This ancient wisdom speaks volumes, especially in light of the ongoing senate hearings against corrupt officials. While the proverb primarily addresses personal conduct, its principles resonate deeply within the realm of public service and the pursuit of justice.

The path of honor, even when confronting corruption, lies in avoiding unnecessary strife. This does not mean condoning wrongdoing or remaining silent in the face of injustice. Rather, it calls for a deliberate, strategic approach that prioritizes truth and accountability over personal vendettas or political posturing.

Consider our senators, entrusted with the vital task of uncovering corruption and holding wrongdoers accountable. This proverb challenges them to act with honor. Hearings must not devolve into unproductive clashes or personal attacks. The focus must remain firmly on facts and evidence, with the pursuit of truth taking precedence over scoring political points. Impartiality is paramount; senators must guard against bias and ensure a fair process for all involved. The ultimate aim should be justice, not vengeance, striving to restore integrity to public service rather than merely seeking to destroy individuals.

Even the officials under scrutiny face a critical choice. Will they follow the path of the "fool," resorting to denial, obfuscation, and personal attacks, thereby prolonging the conflict and further tarnishing their reputations? Or will they embrace the path of honorโ€”acknowledging their transgressions, cooperating fully with the investigation, and seeking to make amends? Though undeniably difficult, this latter path offers the possibility of redemption and the chance to regain some measure of respect.

For the public, Proverbs 20:3 serves as a call to discernment. We must be wary of those who seek to inflame passions and incite conflict. We must demand that our elected officials act with unwavering integrity, pursuing justice with both wisdom and restraint. Let us remember that true honor lies not in winning every argument, but in seeking truth, promoting justice, and working together to build a better, more just society for all.

Even amidst contentious senate hearings and the critical fight against corruption, Proverbs 20:3 reminds us that the path of honor remains the superior choice. It calls for wisdom, restraint, and an unwavering commitment to justiceโ€”not merely for the sake of punishment, but for the restoration of integrity and the advancement of the common good.

โ€œThe terror of a king is like the growling of a lion; whoever provokes him to anger forfeits his life.โ€
Proverbs 20:2

When reverence is lost, ruin follows.

A lionโ€™s roar warns of power not to be challenged. Scripture compares it to the fear of a kingโ€”strong, commanding, and real. To provoke authority carelessly is to risk your own soul.

This isnโ€™t about fearโ€”itโ€™s about wisdom. About knowing when to speak, when to listen, and when to step back.

And wisdom includes knowing the weight of your words. Not every fight is worth picking. Not every moment calls for defiance. Sometimes, honoring peace is the boldest move of all.

โ€œWine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.โ€
Proverbs 20:1

When pleasure deceives, wisdom fades.

Wine mocks. Strong drink stirs unrest. What seems harmless can twist judgment and invite trouble. Scripture doesnโ€™t just warn us about the drinkโ€”it warns us about the drift. The slow slide from clarity to confusion.

To be wise is to stay awake. To guard your peace. To choose what strengthens, not what weakens.

And wisdom isnโ€™t just for the big decisionsโ€”itโ€™s for the daily ones. What we consume, what we tolerate, what we chase. Every choice shapes the soul. Letโ€™s choose what builds, not what breaks.

โ€œCondemnation is ready for scoffers, and beating for the backs of fools.โ€
Proverbs 19:29

Mockery may sound like laughter, but its end is judgment.

Scoffers donโ€™t just ignore wisdomโ€”they make fun of it. Yet in mocking what is right, they end up facing the very judgment they think they can escape.

Fools resist correction until discipline becomes unavoidable. What could have been learned through humble listening becomes a lesson carved in pain. God allows consequences to fall, not because He delights in punishment, but because He longs for hearts to return to Him.

Wisdom isnโ€™t proven in how much we know, but in how willing we are to be corrected. A teachable heart guards us from walking the path of fools. And when we submit to Godโ€™s truth, even His rebukes become a sign of His love guiding us away from destruction.

Letโ€™s be a people who listen rather than scoff, who grow through correction rather than reject it. In doing so, we show the world that true strength is found in humility before God.

โ€œA worthless witness mocks at justice, and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.โ€
Proverbs 19:28

When truth is mocked, justice is wounded.

False witnesses donโ€™t just tell liesโ€”they make light of whatโ€™s right. To mock justice is to treat something sacred as if it doesnโ€™t matter. But justice comes from God Himself, and to disregard it is to disregard Him.

Wickedness is not just stumbled intoโ€”itโ€™s devoured. Those who feed on sin eventually crave it more, until their hearts grow numb to what is good. Itโ€™s a cycle that blinds and binds, leaving no room for truth.

As children of God, weโ€™re called to a different path. Our words must carry honesty, and our actions must protect what is fair. To stand with truth, even when itโ€™s hard, is to reflect the heart of the One who is just and righteous.

So letโ€™s choose to be voices of truth and bearers of integrity. Every word we speak can either weaken justice or uphold itโ€”and when we uphold it, we point others back to God.

โ€œCease to hear instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.โ€
Proverbs 19:27

Drifting begins the moment we stop listening.

This verse reminds us that the absence of listening leads to the absence of wisdom. When we close our ears to guidanceโ€”whether from Godโ€™s Word, mentors, or even correctionโ€”we start to wander. No one grows in wisdom by accident; it takes humility and a daily choice to receive instruction.

Left to our own understanding, we may feel secure, but our perspective is limited and flawed. Thatโ€™s why this verse warns us: ignoring instruction isnโ€™t just disobedienceโ€”itโ€™s the start of losing our way.

To listen is to stay anchored. To receive correction is to guard our steps. God lovingly provides voices of wisdomโ€”through Scripture, through people, and through His Spiritโ€”to keep us from straying. The danger isnโ€™t in failing, but in refusing to hear what will bring us back.

So letโ€™s choose today not just to hear, but to keep listening. Because the moment we cease, we driftโ€”and the moment we listen, we grow.
