Using the power rankings created by The Athletic, the remaining opponents through the all-star break rank on average, 11th. After the break the average opponent ranks 17th. The back half should be easier, even having to see the Rays, Rangers (twice), and Brewers.

Despite a dismal showing in Game 1, the Minnesota Twins came back to take two of three from the visiting San Diego Padres to restore some hope in the hearts of both David and Dan, who weren't feeling too great after the first game. They discuss the bad defense that characterized the 6-1 loss as well as the timely hitting and top-notch pitching that characterized the two victories. Dan heaps plenty of praise on Alex Kirilloff and the courageous Kyle Farmer, while David shines a positive light on the relief pitchers who mostly held in check a talented Padres lineup. They discuss the big hits by Kirilloff (Game 2) and Carlos Correa (Game 3), who delivered arguably the play of the series on a beautiful day at Target Field. David wonders whether it is better to have great pitching and poor hitting than the opposite. The grades segment once again gets contentious, as David has plenty of criticism for Dan's "rubric." Thanks for listening, and go !

For the first time since 2001, the Twins won the season series with the New York Yankees after taking two of three this week at Target Field. David's giddiness over the victory can hardly be contained, though Dan is a bit more tempered. Both wish they had tried harder to win Game 3, when Rocco Baldelli sent the B squad out, along with a clearly ailing Kenta Maeda. Nevertheless, they celebrate the big hits and important pitching performances in the first two games, including the play of Byron Buxton and Joey Gallo, who finally got a chance to play against the Yankees. Dan rants about the ticker and Dick Bremer's near-spoiler on Tuesday, while David asks whether this pitching staff could finally be the one to win not just a playoff game but an entire series. Thanks for listening, and go !

First loss of the season that can be put on Rocco. Disappointing. Lopez and Duran available and you hang Jax out to dry. I realize Jax had elements work against him with Larnach's throw and the hits were weak contact, but with the winning run on 2nd and Jax at 20 pitches I think Rocco should have made a change there.

The Minnesota Twins managed a series split against the New York Yankees in the Bronx. The came out of the gate hot putting up 9 runs in the first inning of game one. The series had plenty of drama surrounding the use of sticky substances which resulted in Rocco being tossed. David's ego takes a hit with his latest Puckett's Picks loss, while Dan can't help himself with his beast pick for the series. David wants to know if this is the beginning of the end for Max Kepler, while Dan wonders if this is only the beginning for Eddie Julien. The series grades segment once again gets heated as Dan makes use of his new grading rubric, while David continues to grade from the heart. The boys discuss the Rays winning streak coming to the close and make their Puckett's Picks for the upcoming Red Sox series. Thanks for listening, and as always, go Twins!

Every season I track the roster construction for the following year. Signing Pablo Lopez confirms that this FO has shifted its mindset and wants to keep this window for making runs in the playoffs open for the foreseeable future. It's a great time to be a Twins fan.

The Minnesota Twins take 2 of 3 from the visiting Houston Astros in their home opening series. David discusses his first trip to see live baseball at Target Field and the difficulties adjusting to the new pitch clock era. The boys discuss the starting pitching proving to be a strength of the team this season, as well as the first pitch-clock violation strike out recorded by Joe Ryan. Puckett's Picks comes down to a tie-breaker which leaves Hoges sulking, and David makes some unorthodox picks for his Beast and Bench. The guys try and sort out how the injuries to Max Kepler and Joey Gallo will impact the lineup, and they discuss Rocco's paradigm shift when it comes to starting pitching and bullpen management. In Herbie's Headlines two very odd baseball feats are reported, and Hoges closes the show feeling vindicated regarding an official scoring change. Thanks for listening, and as always, go Twins!

The seasoning opening win streak comes to an end at 4 games, losing two of three to the Marlins. The starting pitching performances from Kenta Maeda and Pablo Lopez were all for not as the Marlin's reigning Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara shut down the Twins offense in game two, and Luzardo continued the dominance in game three. Dan is still traveling so David is joined in studio once again by Andrew, "Hoges" Hoganson. The boys try and keep their spirits and optimism high after two lackluster offensive performances. Hoges offers pennance to Joey Gallo for not picking him for Puckett's Picks, David is upset that Rocco didn't have Buxton pinch hit at the end of game two, and Hoges wants to know how often we'll see Pagan in medium to high leverage situations. The guys discuss how much playing time Ryan Jeffers will be given if he keeps hitting well, as well as who is next up from AAA if Kepler lands on the IL. The boys finish by grading the series and giving their Puckett's Picks for the upcoming Astros series. Thanks for listening, and as always, go Twins!
