Mulan Star, Coco Lee, Dies At 48

Hong Kong singer-songwriter Coco Lee has died. She died, Wednesday, after a failed su***de attempt over the weekend.

A Facebook post by Lee's sisters confirming her death read thus; “With great sadness, we are here to break the most devastating news: Coco had been suffering from depression for a few years but her condition deteriorated drastically over the last few months.

“Although Coco sought professional help and did her best to fight depression, sadly that demon inside of her took the better of her.”

Lee was the first Chinese singer signed by Sony Music globally. She also was the voice behind the heroine Fa Mulan in the Mandarin version of Disney’s Mulan where she also sang the theme song.

*UNIZIK SUG POLLS: Comrade Ejikeme Emerges President-Elect*

Comrade Francis Izuchukwu Ejikeme, a 300-level student of the Department of Educational Management and Policy, Faculty of Education has been declared winner and President-elect at the just concluded elections into the Students Union Government of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The election which was held virtually on Wednesday, May 5, 2023, recorded an unprecedented number of votes cast.

Comrade Ejikeme, who hails from Umuoji, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State polled a total of 2786 votes to beat four other opponents namely Ibemesi Stanley Chijioke (901 votes), Miss Amobi Pearl (795 votes), Eze Samuel (408 votes), and Ezekwe Chidubem Cornelius (309 votes).

In the same vein, Esther Onyinyechi Nwachukwu polled a total of 2357 votes to emerge as the Vice President defeating the duo of Esther Ifeoma Okafor (2191 votes) and Peace Munachimso Eweluka (630 votes).

Announcing the results, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone, FAS commended the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Chinonso Achebe for what he described as yet another great effort in sustaining the virtual conduct of the SUG elections spanning three (3) years now. In his words, "We've improved greatly in our ICT drive in this University and we are not relenting.

"We commend the students who are the major stakeholders in the University system for their cooperation. We are very keen to allowing transparency, credibility and fairness to thrive in this system. We take all the pain in conducting transparent elections such as this to avert having bad eggs lead the student body".

While congratulating the winners and other contenders alike, Prof Esimone further commended the UNECO team, NANS and student representatives for their patience and commitment towards the success of the election.

In his remarks, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Achebe expressed thanks to God for the smooth conduct of the election. According to him, "All we've done so far is to ensure this e-voting system is improved. You can attest to the fairness, credibility and transparency in the election".

Prof Achebe urged the Federal Government and INEC to take a cue from UNIZIK.

The election Situation Room was monitored by members of NANS, staff members drawn across faculties and agents appointed by contestants.

Fresh facts emerged late Sunday night about the identity of the Man whose wife allegedly gave a hot chase resulting in an accident which claimed her life.

Infopowerng findings showed that both couple Mr and Mrs Sonnie Bassey are lawyers and the deceased was a mother of three boys.

Recall that the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in Cross River, Maikano Hassan, had earlier confirmed a lone incident that killed a middle aged woman who has now been identified as Mrs Bassey, lawyer and mother of three in Calabar who died in a ghastly motor accident while allegedly trying to catch husband with “Side chick”.

Infopowerng reports that the woman was said to be in pursuit of her husband who was alleged to be with a “side chick” in his car when she lost control of her vehicle , killing herself in the process.

A source who didn’t want her name in print said that woman sighted her husband leaving SPAR shopping Mall in the company of another female when she tried to block her husband’s car with the Toyota Highlander she was driving in.

“Her husband was said to have maneuvered his vehicle out of the attempted blockade then took the Murtala Muhammed highway, with his wife is serious pursuit.

“In a bid to outrun her husband, she lost control of the speeding vehicle, veered off the road and slammed the vehicle, head long, into a tree, damaging the vehicle beyond repairs and also killing herself,” the source revealed.

A source at the hospital said Mr Sonnie was allegedly begging the lifeless body of his wife to forgive him while urging her to come back to life and take care of their three Children.

UNIZIK STUDENT FOUND DEAD IN HER ROOM LAST NIGHT, AUTOPSY TO BE CARRIED OUT TO ASCERTAIN THE CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT

A student of the prestigious Nnamdi Azikiwe university UNIZIK reportedly found dead in her her hostel tonight, September 18 autopsy to be carried out at dawn to ascertain the cause of the tragic incident.

According to informations by our correspondent some SUG excos after receiving the sad news from the university’s Chief security Officer ( CSO ) immediately rushed to Immaculate Lodge at Miracle Junction Ifite Awka, Anambra State where the Victim lived, they were able to get some vital informations to identify the victim.

Victim’s name is Esther, a 200L fine and Applied Arts student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, words on the street have it that she was an introvert and likely to be depressed , similar case happened on Sunday September 11 where a student jumped down from a 3 decking after “hearing a knock on his door” what a loss.

Our words and actions go a long way to save peoples lives around us as people are going through alot behind their closets and we must as well all be security conscious.

This also serves as a strict warning to those asking students to return back to Awka when UNIZIK management is yet to announce resumption date for academic sessions as well as those off campus should return to their various homes till school resumption.

Anambra State Bans Wearing Of Mini-Length Uniforms In Schools

Anambra state has banned the wearing of mini-length uniforms in schools across the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma - Udeh made this known during an interactive meeting with Education Secretaries of public and mission schools held at ASUBEB hall, Awka.

The Commissioner condemned the growing trend of putting on mini-length uniforms in schools, saying it goes against the acceptable dress code for schools in the state.

According to the Commissioner, a student should look smart, well-groomed, project positive values and not be indecently dressed for school.

She added that the acceptable length for uniforms in the state remains knee - length and not above -the - knee as is fast becoming the norm.

The Commissioner charged the Education Secretaries to ensure schools comply with the directive and salvage the future of students Anambra.

"You are the foundation. You control the formative years of the children", Prof. Chuma-Udeh said.

"Let us infuse the right morals and discipline in students so they grow to be rational human beings, showing them there is more to life

If we fail to get it right at this stage, we have failed to protect the future of the children", she concluded.

The Education Secretaries met with the Commissioner to discuss the way forward as the next academic session commences on the 19th of September, 2022.

Chinese Man Kills Nigerian Girlfriend For Refusing To Marry Him |

The police in Kano State, North-west Nigeria, has said a Chinese national, Geng Quanrong, allegedly stabbed his long time girlfriend, Ummukulsum Buhari, to death on Friday.

The ugly incident happened Friday night at Kabuga quarters, Gwale Local Government Area.

The Police Spokesperson in Kano, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the suspect, Geng, 47, stabbed the woman to death after he broke into her house through the fence, stabbing her several times.

Mr Kiyawa said the deceased’s mother raised an alarm and alerted the police, who rushed to the scene.

He said the police commissioner in the state, Abubakar Lawan, has directed that the case be transferred to the state police headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the deceased was in a relationship with the Chinese man but later chose to marry a Nigerian.

Their courtship reportedly continued after she divorced her husband.

The police revealed that the suspect claimed that the deceased deceived and collected money from him with the promise to marry him, but failed to fulfil her promise.

The President, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke has said that the union is willing to end its seven-month old strike.

Osodeke, however, said this could only be achieved if concrete agreements were reached with the Federal Government.

Osodeke gave the assurance in Abuja on Thursday at a National Town Hall Meeting on Tertiary Education tagged: ‘ The Locked Gates of our Citadels -A National Emergency.’

Skit maker, Oga Sabinus survives auto crash

Popular Nigerian skit maker, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, also known as Oga Sabinus has survived a car accident on Sunday morning.

Video of the crash which happened Sunday morning is currently circulating on social media.

Confirming the incident, Sabinus stated that he is safe and sound.

He wrote on his Instagram page, “Safe and sound, thank you for the calls and care.”

Oga Sabinus, also on his Instagram Live some minutes after the incident, assured his fans that he is safe and well.

Sabinus said, “For the people calling, I am receiving messages. I am okay. Don’t be afraid. The only thing I keep saying is people should avoid drinking before driving.
