Jodi Johnson on how Black women made sure everyone knew that the #metoo movement was founded by @taranajaneen and y’all better put some respect on her name. Listen to this weeks episode, “Shaun King, Deray McKesson, and the Erasure of Black Women Activist” on Apple Podcast or Spotify.

This episode means a lot to me and that’s why it’s so long!
I go in with guest Jodi Johnson, on how the latest drama between Shaun King and Deray McKesson is an example of how black women have been historically removed from activist movements despite being some of the greatest contributors to said movements. We are a little bit all over the place with this episode but I promise it’s all relevant and hella informative.
In this moment we were talking how the overall protrayal of black women in the media led to the erasure of black women from the #MeToo movement as both activist and as victims. The book that I mentioned is Notes on the State of Virginia in which Thomas Jefferson states that black men “preference of the Oran-utan [orangutan] for the black women over those of his own species.” Can y’all make that sh*t make sense?
Francesca Clifton's Thought on Brandt Jean
Co-producer of Black Culture Black Thought @fran_thephoenix speaking on how our anger about Brandt Jean forgiving Amber Guyger is miss placed. Is being eighteen old enough to know the impact of how publicly forgiving Guyger would land within the black community?
I do want to acknowledge that neither Clarence Thomas or #Brettk were found guilty of any wrongdoing. I also want to acknowledge that we cannot say that neither of the accusations that Anita Hill or Christine Balsey Ford put forth were properly nor throughly investigated.
Two out of the nine Supreme Court Justices have sexual assault or harassment allegations lobbied against them. When the highest powers who uphold the law within this country were accused of sexually assault, then the law fails sexual assault survivors. Our courts fail. What #Remyma excluded from her argument is that we do not have in place the proper justice, medical, nor emotional systems in place to provide a safe enough space for survivors to press criminal charges.
