Hello Moments with Mom Family! Shelby here (Stephanie's Daughter)! We just wanted to share with you all that over the weekend we celebrated Nana's (Mom) 80th Birthday.

As you know she is the oldest of 12 and is the matriarch of the Shell Family. She was completely overjoyed and surprised. She was showered with so much love. It was extra special because we were able to read some Moments with Mom to her and the rest of the family. Even though it was tough to celebrate without our Mom (Stephanie), being there, we were glad her presence was still felt through her journal entries. It was our families first time hearing some of moments written by our Mom.

Happy Mother's Day from Nana and her Brothers and Sisters. Nana has been living in South Carolina with her siblings since April 2023.

"Down South feels just as much as home as up North did. Mommy and Daddy are here, my siblings are here, I love it".

In honor of Mother's Day, I wanted to share a moment with you all, but first Happy Mothers Day to all the Mothers/Mother figures out there! Nana would have to remind our Mom often that SHE was indeed still "The Mother". This moment warmed my heart and I hope it warms yours too.

"Mom's Siblings Dish the Dirt"

On this day three years ago, my Sisters and my Mom took a trip to Charlotte to hear Oprah speak for the first time. We were all so excited! During that visit we also got to visit our family in South Carolina and hear all about what our Nana was like as a "big sis".

Mom’s favorite flower is a daisy.

"Me and Mom also enjoy sitting out front on the porch. On this day I ask Mom what her favorite flower is, because I didn’t know. She says Daisy. We don’t have any daisies planted in the garden. We did have one in a planter out front that Mom bought. I believe I over watered it and it drowned. The leaves came back but no daisy. Now I feel bad because I didn’t know it was her favorite flower. We laugh about it, and spontaneously start singing.

“Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do, I'm half crazy all for the love of you. It won't be a stylish marriage, I can't afford a carriage. But you'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two.

We both laugh and continue sitting on the porch.

UPDATE: Hello Friends & Family! I hope you all had a good holiday season and New Year. While it was rough to navigate without our Mom Stephanie, we made it through because we had each other. Sometimes when Mom would write down a moment she would call us to share what she wrote. For Christmas I printed and framed a moment for Nana, my siblings and her Sisters as a keepsake. We all got different one's and were able to share with each other which moment we got. It was bittersweet

Nana made Banana Pudding for Thanksgiving yesterday. It's a family staple and a dish we look forward to it every year. Nana learned the recipe from her Mother, Willie Mae Shell. Can you tell she was proud!

Nana was glad to be back in the kitchen again. It's one of her favorite spaces. She spent the last month in rehab regaining her strength after a fall. She's doing better but still adjusting to all the change. A lot of uou have been asking so we just wanted to let you know she's currently staying with our Aunt Dana (Moms little Sister).
We all were missing Mom yesterday but being surrounded by family and love was just what we all needed.

P.S. In our family we bake our Banana Pudding ( it's a southern thing). Do you?

Mom: "Stacey, Tito, Dana, Shonda, Sydney, Sharee, Peyton, Iyona, Shelby…."

Me: "Umm…...Stephanie"

Mom: "You know who I mean Stephanie"

In Stephanie's memoir Moments With Mom : A Journey of Love there will be 50 moments that you will be able to read about. Some will make you laugh, cry both happy and sad tears and smile. This one today made me smile. Before she came up with the idea to turn MWM into a book, she would write the moments down inside random notebooks or whatever piece of paper was within reach. When it came time to type them up, she'd write "done".

"Nana Made Family Dinner"

(Shelby here) Last Sunday we all gathered at Mom and Nana's house to have our last family dinner on Locust street. Nana requested we all have a homecooked meal by her before packing up the house. She made Mom's infamous beef stew, some fried chicken, rice, biscuits, spinach and some banana pudding. She'd spent the whole day in the kitchen to prepare. It was delicious and just the comfort food we all needed.
When I walked in she was playing some gospel music, humming, tired but focused. I was so happy to see her walking around the kitchen without her crutch, taking her time, and standing upright. She did good even though I know it wasn't easy!

( If you know Nana, then you know all too well the story about her and her crutch, if not you'll be able to read about it in MWM).

Family means everything to our Mom so I know she would have been happy to see us all gather, pray, laugh, cry, eat and share memories in this space that is so special to us all. We even had a Marvel movie playing in true Shell Family fashion to add to the comfort.
As we enter into this next chapter of our lives, we're glad we got have this Sunday, it felt like the closure we needed.

(Shelby here) Nana stayed down south for the rest of the month to spend some quality time with her siblings. Here, she is out to eat with her little Sisters Marian & Tito (Mary).
One of the journal entries you will find in Moments with Mom is called "Mom’s Siblings Dish The Dirt", it's a good read, and will definitely make you laugh!

We laid Mom to rest last Wednesday down south. Afterwards we all went back to what our family calla the "Shell Compound" on Lakeview Drive to just be with Family. I was looking through my Aunt Marians photo albums and found this photo of my Mom, Aunt Dana, Aunt Stacey and Nana and just wanted to share.

Nana and I went out for lunch at one of her and Mom's regular spots, Lydon Diner. We're getting ready to head to South Carolina tomorrow for Moms burial and have to run a few errands today .We're all taking it moment by moment and I just wanted to share a small one with you all.

Shelby: "I'm full Nana I think I'm going to slow down now, I don't want to catch "the itis"
Nana: "What's that?
Shelby: "You know the itis, it's when you get sleepy after a big meal"
Nana:" oh never heard of it, I never had it"
Shelby: "Trust me we've all had it lol"

Dear friends of Moments with Mom. This is Shelby, Stephanie's daughter. It is with deep regret and sorrow that I have to write this but our Mother Stephanie A. Seaton, author of Moments with Mom passed in her sleep at home, Monday August 29th.
Nana is safe and taken care of.

I arrived home from work today to find Mom had spent the day painting. She set up her easel and everything. Not sure what the finished product will be, but I know it will be beautiful. I will keep you posted🎨
