โHi all, my name is Jeff Maletz, Iโm an A&E SHO in Eastbourne GDH, yes, we were frontline workers. A lot of people asked me if I was not afraid to get the virus, getting infected or even die from it.
I always answered no, when you know what to do, how to do it and why are you doing it, everything goes well.
Of course we had difficult night shifts, and very good memories also! Iโm pretty sure that we have all learned from this, weather itโs teamwork, keep ourselves safe and focus or to remember our commitment and love to what we do. I realised how lucky we -doctors and essential workers- are, during this lockdown we were able to go outside and work, meet our colleagues, who are friends, meet other people, interact with human beings, listen to them, help them, I bet staying home ainโt an easy thing to do, specially if you live by your own.
However, we saw some of the staff getting the virus, getting sick and every time we wished them recovery. One of the best memories was to see two of the doctors coming back to work after 3 weeks of isolation, sharing their symptoms and laughing as they named each other โCorona survivorsโ or โCorona veteransโ.
We learned from a doctors perspective becoming a patient. They said โyou never understand the meaning of shortness of breath unless you feel itโ.
Maybe weโre slowly coming back to โnormalโ but this experience will remain in our personal memories forever.
Iโm glad to be a doctor.โ
Thank you for letting us into your world ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐ค
