We'll explore a REAL-LIFE SCAM phone call to expose the techniques that SCAMMERS use to gain the trust of their victims.

Vishing (voice phishing) is a phone call phishing method meant to trick you into sharing personal information such as your username and password, your PIN, and your One-Time Password (OTP).

Frank Abagnale, a master conman, was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie "Catch Me If You Can". Social engineering was one of the tricks he had always used. Facebook's recent data leak can strengthen cybercriminals' social engineering attacks. In my recent upload, you will learn how to spot and avoid these kinds of scams: https://youtu.be/d4HUxgbTKjE

How can you check if your Facebook data was leaked? So what if it was?

533 million Facebook users' personal data have been leaked online, including Mark Zuckerberg's own phone number. Facebook claims that this was a 2-year-old data breach and that it can't inform its users because it doesn't know which users were affected.

Almost 900,000 users' data from the Philippines were compromised. Even phone numbers of Filipino celebrities were exposed. The potential danger of this data leak is primarily identity theft and social engineering. Social engineering is the psychological manipulation to trick someone into revealing confidential information. It was a strategy used extensively by the popular con artist Frank Abagnale whose life was turned into a movie.

Maximizing credit card points: which card offers the best rewards? 💳

Banks obscure the correlation between the peso reward and the peso spent through complicated reward points systems. I'm here to untangle all that abstraction and compare these credit cards side by side. Refer to the table in the photo.

"Peso Spent to 1 Point/Mile": (How much should I spend to get 1 point/mile?)
This is usually the advertised number when you apply for a credit card.

"Point/Mile to 1 Peso Redemption": (How many points/miles can be converted to a 1 peso reward?)
This may slightly vary depending on the actual item redeemed but here I chose the best or most relevant, usually the gift certificates (GC).

"Peso Spent to 1 Peso Redemption": (This is the most important number.)
THE LOWER THE NUMBER, THE BETTER.

It means you need to spend X pesos to redeem an equivalent of 1 peso reward (whether through points or cashbacks). However, please note that this should not be the be-all and end-all factor when choosing credit cards. Most premium cards have airline and insurance perks such as free access to airport lounge (but I doubt that will be of any use right now), and these should also be considered when choosing a card.

Seasonal promos also add value to some cards (e.g. BPI/BDO's usual 100 PHP GC for every 3,000 PHP spent will give you a very low 30 pesos-spent-to-1-peso-redemption value, plus the actual cc points earned). In addition, you get more value to specialized credit cards as seen in the table. For example, the Citi Shell card and HSBC Visa Gold card both offer an extremely low 20 pesos-spent-to-1-peso-redemption value for fuel and dining transactions, respectively.

SO WHICH CREDIT CARD IS THE BEST?
It depends on where you will use it! I personally keep more than a dozen cards from different banks and use the optimal credit card for every specific purchase I make (whichever gives the highest rebate, points, or has an ongoing promo). Here's what I prefer:

💸 General expense - Unionbank Cashback card or Citi PremierMiles (or BPI/BDO when they have the Spend-Anywhere promo)
🍽️ Dining - HSBC Cashback card
💊 Medicine - Citi Mercury card
🛒 Grocery - Citi Cashback card
⛽ Gasoline - Citi Shell, HSBC Cashback (Caltex), or BPI Petron card (depends on which gas station)

Last reminder. Please please please remember this general rule when paying your credit card bills: IN FULL, ON TIME, EVERY SINGLE MONTH.

Otherwise, all these rewards points and rebates mean NOTHING if you will pay for interest and finance charges.

It will give you FREE 30,000 miles or 5,000 PHP GC/rebate after signing up (depending on the card applied)!

What are the different kinds of text and online scams? How can you avoid them?

In the midst of the pandemic, I noticed the rise of text and online scams so I decided to make a video about this topic.

I covered SMS spoofing that will explain how you can receive fraudulent texts from "BDO-ONLINE" or "BPI-OTP". The scammers may even already know some of your personal info like name, address, and bank and they will use these to make you believe that the scam call is from your bank.
