The monsoon session of the Indian Parliament was almost a washout- both the houses kept getting adjourned amidst the loud dissent of the Opposition.
The Opposition has been blamed for stalling Parliament by creating a ruckus but the question we should be asking is- why were they forced to creat a ruckus? Why were the demands for discussion on key issues- like inflation and covid deaths-ignored? Why were critical bills not sent to Parliamentary Committee for review when it was unanimously recommended by the Opposition?
A democracy thrives on debates and discussions. The Opposition exists to question the Govt, its their constitutional right and duty to hold the Govt accountable. By using the strength of numbers to deny Opposition leaders their constitutional right, it is the Govt which has abused democratic norms.
