To commemorate the event and southwestern Virginia’s role in the American Revolution, Blue Ridge PBS and PBS Appalachia is producing the documentary RESOLVED TO LIVE AND DIE: THE REVOLUTIONARY ROOTS OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA. Premiering in Fall 2025, the project is a partnership with the Wilderness Road Regional Museum and Wytheville Museums.

Virginia Humanities at UVA Wise, a new regional humanities center located at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise (UVA Wise), is offering a new grant program for Southwest Virginia’s museums, libraries, historic sites and other cultural nonprofits.

Nonprofit organizations in Bristol, Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Norton, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, and Wise are encouraged to apply for up to $5,000 for projects that explore the stories of Southwest Virginia - its history, people, communities and cultural tradition as well as issues and questions that impact the lives of Virginians in the present day.
