Step of Faith World Vision Evening Devotion :
This Evening Devotion is written by Caroline P. Williams.

Theme:
The Church must Minister to the Poor

Jesus directed much of His ministry to the Poor. When He described His anointing, He included them.

The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor....

Luke 4:18

Let's look t the reason God requires us to minister to the poor.

Hearken to me , ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the Lord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn , and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged.

Isaiah 51:1

Isaiah instructed us to remember the miserable state of moral and spiritual poverty we were in before God save us . It is good for us to remember that we were in the deepest possible form of poverty. We were bankrupt in the court of God righteous judgement. When we cried out from our point of need, God generously gave us salvation.

For that same reason the poor are always with us . They are there to remind us that in our darkest hour of need , God generously gave His best to us. He gave us His only begotten Son. Because of His generosity to us in the time of our spiritual poverty, we should always be ready to give to others in their time of need.
