"Nihizhí, Our Voices" is a podcast series dedicated to providing listeners with recorded conversations on a variety of topics that center Indigenous voices across Turtle Island and beyond.

The Diné Forest and Climate Teach-In will start important conversations about climate change and environmental challenges, specifically focusing on topics such as fire ecology, cultural revitalization, plant conservation and forest use.

This 2 day seminar – May 28 and 29 – will be held at the Fort Defiance Chapter House on the Navajo Nation (with lunch provided both days :))

We want to introduce you to our newest guest

Jeffrey grew up in Atlanta Georgia and attended the University of Michigan
and University of Chicago Law School. He was one of the founders of Peoples’ Law Office in Chicago in 1969 where he worked on Movement criminal defense and civil rights cases.

He represented the families of Black Panther leaders Fred Hampton And Mark Clark, in a 13 year civil rights case that
exposed the FBI led Cointelpro conspiracy He also represented persons charged after the prison rebellions at Attica and Pontiac prison and Movement and mass arrest Defendants in Chicago.

After moving to new Mexico in 2001 with his wife Mariel Nanasi, Jeffrey organized the Action Coalition of Taos to protest the Iraq War.

‭He was also ‬one of the main criminal defense attorneys who defended Water Protectors at Standing Rock and was on the Board of the Water Protector Legal Collective.

Orleans became a nationally recognized firewise community site in 2011 and has maintained its firewise status since then. The Orleans Firewise Board is assisted by Orleans Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) in its efforts to improve fire preparedness in their community.

Since 1963, their all-volunteer team has provided fire protection and emergency medical response to the communities of Orleans, Somes Bar, Weitchpec, and in between.

We want to welcome two of our newest guests, both featured in Episode 22, Realities, People and God: Christian Palestinian, Liberation Theology.

Samuel S. Munayer is a Palestinian theologian from Jerusalem. He completed a BA in Theology and Philosophy at Durham University, and a Masters in Middle Eastern Politics at the University of Exeter. Currently, he works for Sabeel Ecumenical Palestinian Liberation Theology Centre.

Omar Haramy is an Arab, a Palestinian, a Jerusalemite, and a Christian of Greek Orthodox faith. Since 2017, Omar has been at the helm of Sabeel, an influential center dedicated to Palestinian liberation theology. Omar is also actively involved in Kairos Palestine, serving on its steering committee

Episode 21, Good Fire features three guests from the Karuk Nation. Vikki Preston grew up in Orleans, CA along the Klamath Rivers and is currently working at the Karuk Tribe’s Department of Natural Resources as a Cultural Resources Technician. Her focus is projects around cultural and prescribed fires and organizing of Karuk Indigenous Women’s + Burning.

Frankie Tripp was born and raised in her ancestral territory. She is a mother of three and works with the Pikyav Programs K-12 Environmental Education Program, teaching about their homeland and increasing knowledge around different programs at the Karuk Department of Natural Resources.

Leece Larue is a Two-Spirit Indigieq***r mixed Karuk Person. Their focus is seeking to restore traditional and contemporary Karuk, Scots Gael and Welsh Pagan fire keeping by empowering q***r, trans and gender marginalized Indigenous folks with controlled and cultural burning efforts, especially those within their local communities and homelands.

Welcome Beverly Longid, our guest for Episode 20! She is an Igorot from the Bontoc-Kankanaey people of the Mountain Province in the Cordillera region in the Philippines. She is the National Convenor and International Officer of KATRIBU (Kalipunan ng Katutubong Mamamayan ng Pilipinas), a national alliance of Indigenous Peoples organizations in the Philippines. She is also the Global Coordinator of the International Indigenous Peoples Movement for Self-Determination and Liberation and an executive council member of Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP), among others. She is a dedicated and hardworking individual, deeply committed to serving the greater good, especially Indigenous Peoples.

Misty Flowers is actually the Executive Director of the since July 2018.

Their vision is for all Native American children in Nebraska raised by loving Indian families, surrounded by the people, culture, and heritage that they know best.
