January 11, 1949 - The station went on the air, as WDTV on Channel 3, which was owned-and-operated by DuMont Television Network, becoming the third and last DuMont-owned station, and the first owned-and-operated station in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the first television station in the Pittsburgh television market ever to sign on the air.
November 23, 1952 - WDTV moved its facilities to channel 2, and it became the first television station in the United States to broadcast 24 hours of day, 7 days a week.
1953 - Bill Burns joined the station as the main news anchor.
January 1955 - Channel 2 was purchased by Westinghouse, changed its call letters to KDKA-TV, and became an affiliate of the CBS Network.
