It’s really sickening to think that my ancestors had to watch “Americans” celebrate their freedom every year on 7/4 for 89 years and remain in bo***ge.
That’s like you having a favorite child who gets a birthday party every year for their WHOLE LIVES and making your other children sit it out and clean up after it. No cake, no smiles, just terror, homicide, free labor, separation of families, r**e, and the lack of any type of empathy for that behavior.
Collectively we have felt pure glee on this day every June 19th for 165 years till now, and many of us have despised July 4 because of it.
Straight up. That holiday quite literally WAS NOT MEANT FOR US.
So when we talk about reparations, paying the descendants of white Americans to be off of work to celebrate with us sounds good except that it don’t.
Declaring this a national holiday after 165 years of disregarding the day we ALL truly experienced freedom is a delayed and deliberate message to Black people, no matter how you slice it.
Y’all hearts may be in the right place but put some real reparations behind it.
Just the reality of white vs. Black generational wealth disparities illustrates the need for quantifiable and measurable MONETARY action—put ya money where ya mouth is.
As much as I’m gonna continue celebrating the freedom of my ancestors on this day fa evaaaa, let US make the noise, the rest of y’all sat down and read a book about it. Study up on the generational trauma inflicted on the millions.
Too many of y’all were totally unaware of the FACTS, the HISTORY up until this point—and until you prioritize educating yourselves on all that, be clear, the very basis of this holiday is SOLELY the freedom of BLACK FOLKS.
Now CashApp your favorite Black friend that holiday pay and stay yo ass in the house and READ. Respectfully. 🖤✊🏾
