Kadaisi Vivasayi! ( Last Farmer)
Generally films that are made on agriculture would be taken in specific template.
First an artificial village would be shown.
Second a corporate villain will be introduced
Third a powerful hero from the village or from other profession will be protecting the village from this corporate villain.
Lastly, a social message will be there.
Kadaisi Vivasayi doesn't dwell into this cliche Nonsense, rather it takes us directly to the village and make us root for the characters.
The locations that are shown in the film are not only beautiful but also realistic. There are no sharp and fast cuts unlike other masala films that take this agriculture problem just as a subplot. There are long shots in the movie which gives us an immersive experience as if we are in the village. Most of the characters in the movie are from the village itself and they doesn't even have acting experience.
The story revolves around an 80+ year old farmer (Maayandi) living a frugal lifestyle in a village. He just has a small piece of land and all the others in the village has just given up farming as there is no rain. There comes a situation where he is tasked with providing the symbolic first grain for the village temple's annual ceremony as there is no other farmer in the village. The hardships he's facing to give that first grain in the crux of the story.
