Today at the Enugu State Government House, I instituted a committee chaired by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, to procure and distribute palliatives to Ndi Enugu. This is to mitigate the harsh economic effects of the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government on residents of Enugu State.

My dear people, I feel your pain and I have charged the committee to speedily distribute the relief items to you all, especially to those in dire need of it. It is my hope that the palliatives would go a long way to soften the effects of the present hardship.

As promised we will deliver. Together, we will make Enugu work.

Today, I inaugurated a seven-man committee chaired by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, to oversee the verification and payment of outstanding pensions and gratuities to Enugu State retirees.

This is in line with our campaign promise to clear pension and gratuity arrears. The committee shall determine and verify outstanding two-month pension arrears to state retirees, determine and verify the outstanding gratuities owed to state retirees, conduct all payments according to months and years of retirement of officers from service, and render monthly and quarterly reports to the SSG in respect of all payments.

In a bid to eradicate poverty, our target is to design policies that would be favourable to our vulnerable ones. We believe that this step will help in cushioning the effect of the subsidy removal by the FG on our people.

ENSG says shops sealed for disobeying the ban on illegal sit-at-home orders shall remain closed for one week.

ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

SEALING OF SHOPS OVER BAN ON SIT-AT-HOME ORDERS

The Enugu State Government wishes to commend civil society organisations and residents that took ownership of government's ban on illegal sit-at-home orders by embarking on peaceful demonstrations in the capital city yesterday. Government commends the participants for their peaceful conduct throughout the demonstrations.

In previous announcements to the good people and residents of Enugu State, government had directed business and shop owners to open for normal businesses on Monday and every work day, or have the defaulting business premises and shops sealed. That was exactly what the government did on Monday, July 24, 2023, to enforce its earlier directives.

All businesses that were sealed shall remain sealed for one week, at the end of which they shall provide their current tax clearance certificates and all other relevant revenue documents to enable the state government to review and consider their formal letters for re-opening.

Again, all considerations start from Friday, July 28, 2023 from 2.00 pm at the Enugu State Capital Development Authority (ECTDA) headquarters.

Please be guided accordingly.

Signed:
*Professor Chidiebere Onyia*
Secretary to the State Government

Water is so pure and innocent. Fire is so destructive and dangerous. Yet, if they fight, water wins all the time. Don’t underestimate gentle and kind people. The day you think you can dominate them with your harshness and aggressiveness may be the day that you die. Water is not as physically strong as a rock. Yet, water breaks through the strongest rock through a combination of persistence, patience and perseverance. Underestimate gentle people at your peril.

I was humbled to receive in audience the Bishops of the Methodist Church of Nigeria led by the Prelate, His Eminence, Most Rev. Oliver Ali Abba, who were in Enugu for the 40th Annual Council of Bishops Conference. We shared moments together exchanging ideas on good governance and addressing the basic needs of the people, as they prayed for the peace and development of our state.

My gratitude to My Lord Bishops for discarding the negative stereotypes of insecurity in our state, and embracing the warm hospitality which our state is known for.

I'm hopeful they will choose Enugu again and again for other engagements. Everyone

A domestic servant has allegedly k!lled his employer with a pestle in Awka, Anambra State capital.

The deceased, Chima Anolue, a lecturer at the Psychology Department at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, was attacked with the pestle when a fight ensued between him and the domestic staff.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Friday night, July 14, 2023, at Ifite village in Awka.

The suspect was also said to have bruised the deceased’s body with a knife after he became unconscious to make it look as if he was attacked by a third party, Punch reported.

According to sources, the suspect was captured by the local security and confessed to repeatedly hitting his late boss with a pestle after he asked him why he hadn't done his household duties.

However, when he refused to answer, Chima sl@pped him, which led to a fight, where he later fatally attacked his boss.

“When he came back, he told me to cook rice. And as I was cooking the rice, he asked me why I did not wash plates. I did not reply. He then asked why I wasn’t responding to his question,” the suspect said.

“In the process, he sl@pped me. But I told him I usually have ear problems, and that people don’t slap me. As I was saying that, he angrily asked if I was still talking while he was talking. And therefore, he sl@pped me again and brought out cane and started flogging me all over,”

"Then in the process, I got angry, and we started fighting. It was also in the process of that fight that I picked up the pestle in the kitchen and hit him on the head.”

During interrogation, the suspect who first denied k!lling his master, later confessed to the crime after he was thoroughly beaten when his moves became suspicious.

A family source said, “While friends and relatives of the deceased were taking him to the hospital that night for medical attention after the encounter, the suspect was attempting to choke him to d£ath right inside the vehicle where he was sitting close to him allegedly to conceal

Some pastors don’t want to preach against Yahoo Yahoo and Prostitution because to them , this set of people are the ones that bring heavy money to the church.

We can’t continue like this .

This menace will reduce drastically if our pastors keep preaching against it.

We’ve put security agencies on highest level of alert, Mbah assures residents

…enjoins citizens to erase everything about sit-at-home from their memories

…as PGs pledge support to end sit-at-home

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has assured residents and visitors carrying on businesses in the state of their safety, stressing that his administration had already placed security agencies on the highest level of alert to forestall security breaches and sefeguard their lives and property.

The governor who further enjoined them to erase everything about sit-at-home in the state from their memories, said the government was doing everything necessary to liase with other neighbouring states in order to dislodge criminals from all their hideouts.

Governor Mbah gave these assurances on Thursday in Enugu at a meeting with the Presidents-General (PGs) of all the autonomous communities in the state, even as they pledged their support to end the illegal sit-at-home order being enforced by hoodlums, and make the state attractive to investors.

He bemoaned the devastating impacts of the unlawful sit-at-home, such as impoverishing citizens and scaring potential investors, saying that his administration would deal ruthlessly with criminal elements disturbing the peace of the state.

According to him, there’s a comnection between sit-at-home and poverty among the people, warning that security operatives would continue to strike hooligans victimizing the public over a wrong and unjustifiable cause.

He wondered why those sitting at the comfort of their homes somewhere overseas would be hurting innocent people in a sponsored bid to distabilize the region, saying it’s only those living in delusion that would hide under the guise of fighting for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release to commit atrocities.

Mbah reiterated his resolve to make the state attractive for private investors, create jobs, train the youths on digital transformation, and restore the lost glory the state was known

KEEP YOUR VISION CLEAR!

This is a car, covered in mud and dirt. The driver understands that he is driving in a muddy environment. He does not stop to first clean the rest of the car. He simply ensures that the windscreen is clean and clear as he drives ahead.

This in many ways represents our pursuits in life- be in the struggle we are involved in, or any other venture.

Will life throw mud at you? Most definitely!

Will people throw dirt all over you? Hell yeah!

Will challenges and tribulations come your way? Assuredly!

Are there people who will brand you, malign you and throw all manner of profanities at you? As sure as day follows night!

Question is, what do you do when this happens? Your attitude will determine your altitude. Your response will determine whether you sink or swim. Whether you fly or collapse!

KEEP YOUR VISION CLEAR. As the mud comes in from all sides, keep your focus on the journey. Do not turn to the left or to the right - keep looking ahead. Let everything else be covered in mud but not your eyesight.

There is nothing that assists the enemy like seeing you stop everytime to concentrate on the dirt he is throwing at you. In the first place, that is his intention. Conversely, nothing destroys the enemy more than seeing you remain focused on the cause and the course despite all the mud they throw at you. That is the only way you can make it to your destination.

May God help all of us to keep the vision, keep our focus on the bigger picture and keep the faith!

Thank you so much for Reading through ❤👏

I'm sad to hear of the demise of the veteran Nollywood actress, Cynthia Okereke.

She was a mother, a great daughter of Enugu State and a talented actress who interpreted her roles with outstanding dexterity.

Her passing is a huge loss to Enugu State, the movie industry, her family and friends, and I pray for the peaceful repose of her soul.

May the good Lord fill the void created by her absence, and grant her family the strength and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss. I urge them to find consolation in the fact that Okereke led a good life. Her legacy in Nollywood will forever live on. May her soul rest in peace.

BREAKING: NYSC certified Mbah's certificate, INEC witness tells tribunal

A subpoenaed witness from the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) called by the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Chijioke Edeoga, on Tuesday told the Enugu State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Enugu that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate submitted to the commission by the Enugu State governor, Dr Peter Mbah, was certified by the NYSC.

The witness, Mr Dimas Friday Emmanuel, while under cross examination by Mbah's lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), averred that Mbah's NYSC discharge certificate was forwarded to the NYSC for authentication, stressing that the NYSC certifies only a document emanating from it.

Chief Olanipekun had said to the INEC witness, "Have a look at Exhibit EPT01/A, B, and C, particularly the NYSC Certificate there, that Certificate which you said Mbah forged was certified by the NYSC", to which he replied in the affirmative.

"Am I correct to say that NYSC can only certify a document in its possession and a document emanating from the institution?" Again, he said "Yes".

On further cross examination by the counsel to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Alex Iziyon (SAN), the witness, who is a legal practitioner, also admitted that Mbah's NYSC Certificate carried a stamp of the NYSC, certifying the document.

"Look at Exhibit 08A and B, there is an NYSC Certificate, it carries a stamp of NYSC, certifying that document", Iziyon had asked, to which the witness answered "Yes".

The witness further confirmed that the name on the said certificate was Mbah Peter Ndubuisi, that it was dated 6th January 2003 and that the certificate number was also A808297.

It will be recalled that Mbah's NYSC discharge certificate has been a subject of controversy between the governor and the NYSC, with the NYSC alleging that Mbah forged the certificate with number A808297 and that it was not issued by them, while Mbah insisted that it was genuine and issued by the institution.

Meanwhile, the witness, Mr. Emmanuel confirmed upon cross examination that LP’s governorship candidiate, Chijioke Edeoga’s name, was not contained in Exhibit 16, being the LP membership register for Enugu, which he also tendered.

Efforts by Edeoga’s lawyer, Ehitayo Fatomi, SAN, to have the court refuse the admission of the register was overuled by the court.

Today, at the House of Chiefs Chamber, Enugu State House of Assembly, I had an interactive session with our traditional rulers concerning bringing an end to the illegal sit-at-home order, and the menace of insecurity in Enugu State.

I was deeply taken by the efforts they are making towards the restoration of lasting peace in our state and the reviving of our economy.

They have resolved to support my government and take charge of their communities as chief security officers.

Enugu State is all we have. Let's all join hands in building our home.

I was warmly received by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar, during a courtesy visit to him at the Airforce Headquarters, Abuja. I felicitated him on his new appointment by President Bola Tinubu. Enugu State hosts an Airforce Base and schools, and we shared ideas on strengthening our relationships on internal security, education, and other areas of mutual interest.

It was with great pride that I paid a courtesy visit to the Enugu State-born Chief of the Naval Staff, the first Service Chief from our state since the current democratic era, Rear Admiral IE Ogalla at Naval Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday.

I once again congratulated him on his recent appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as we explored areas of cooperation between the Nigerian and Enugu State government on areas of common interests such as internal security, inland waterway navigation and transportation, and others.
