Hi friends!

Around this time of year, we would usually be launching into a new season of the podcast.

Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to pause upcoming episodes.

As we begin to navigate motherhood (yes, Becca had her baby, and Sarah & Geoff are PREGNANT and due early next year!!), we need to prioritize our families.

We aren’t sure how long this break will be. But in the meantime, catch up on our preexisting episode library.

Please continue to share all the weird connections you have to the stories we have told.

Pepsi Number Fever, also known as the Pepsi 349 Incident, was one of the biggest corporate blunders of the 20th century!

This wildly popular marketing stunt took the Philippines by storm. The nation was buzzing with excitement until a simple error by Pepsi crushed hundreds of thousands of hopes and dreams, leading to lawsuits, rioting, and multiple deaths.

This episode also happens to be our Season 3 finale! 🤩

Every year, we take the summer off to rest, research, and prepare for our next season. This year, we have an extra special reason to take a break! 🌱

The story of Biosphere 2 is real-life sci-fi 👽🌎

In the early 90s, eight people lived inside an air-tight, giant glass structure filled with replicas of the earth’s ecosystems with the goal of living in a completely self-sufficient way for all human needs including food, water, and oxygen.

Let’s just say the experiment didn’t exactly go as planned… 👩‍🌾🌾

On paper, he seems like a stand up guy - he is highly educated, charismatic, a prolific surgeon, author and TV personality ⭐️

He also has a tendency to spew misinformation, practice out of his scope, and promote products in unethical ways 💊

And he has made millions doing it 💰

The 1981 Spanish cooking oil disaster is considered the world’s worst food poisoning. Decades of extensive investigation would follow, with one leading solid theory emerging. However, the lack of a definitive answer means that conspiracy theories still swirl 42 years later.

Worse by far, many people still suffer in their everyday lives due to the chronic effects of this tragedy.

The glamorization of tuberculosis, A RESPIRATORY DISEASE, was one of the factors that pushed the Tapeworm Diet in the 1800's...aka contracting a PARASITIC INFECTION for the sake of weight loss.

It's now 2022 and we're back to promoting addiction like we did in the 90’s.

When will we stop idealizing illness aesthetic?

When will we stop treating bodies as trends?

Bodies do not go in or out of style. PERIOD.

We discuss the evolution of the problematic Victorian beauty standards in our most recent episode on the Tapeworm Diet.

If you’ve listened to our most recent episode on the Donner Party, you’ll know why we chose these two!

Tamsen Donner is an easy choice because in 1846, she was in her second marriage, having kids in her 40’s, and never left her husband’s side even when rescue parties came and went. Tell us that love story girl!!!

William Eddy had a strong moral compass despite extreme hunger and cold, was the most successful wild animal hunter on the trip, and could be credited with saving the entire party!

We discuss these stories and SO MUCH more in this weeks episode. Check it out and let us know, which Donner Party member would you have dinner with?! 🥘

This week we’re talking cannibalism and the infamous Donner Party!

In the spring of 1846, a group of pioneers left Missouri in a convoy of horse-drawn wagons with hearts full of hope, and ventured west along the Oregon Trail to start a new life in California. Little did they know that by the time their voyage was complete, nearly half of them would be dead…

A review from one of our biggest supporters and Becca’s father-in-law, Earl, who was taken from us last week.

He was a light to all who knew him. One of the most thoughtful & generous people.

We were lucky to have him as our #1 fan for a long as we did.

We will miss his thoughtful comments and episode suggestions and continue on in hopes of making him proud.

In this episode, we cover the infant formula scandal that rocked the world in the 1970’s & that is often referred to as the darkest chapter in corporate history 💰

We discuss the evolution of infant feeding - from wet nurses to formula 🍼

And how one formula company prioritized profits over people, indirectly killing thousands through the misuse of its products.
