Unlike other mammals, felines are actually completely indifferent to sweets. While most mammals have five taste receptors (salty, bitter, sour, umami, and sweet), cats skipped this gene. That is, their taste receptors simply can’t detect sugar. To them, the best flavors are salty and umami.
