ACTIVE WATCH: SEL1

URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 161
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
830 PM CDT Fri Apr 29 2022

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
South-central Iowa
Extreme eastern Kansas
West-central and northwestern Missouri

* Effective this Friday night and Saturday morning from 830 PM
until 400 AM CDT.

inches in diameter possible
A tornado or two possible

SUMMARY...A band of severe thunderstorms is expected to cross the
watch area from west-east this evening, offering severe gusts,
sporadic large hail, with a tornado also possible embedded in the
complex.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 50
statute miles east and west of a line from 50 miles southwest of
K**b Noster MO to 60 miles north northwest of Lamoni IA. For a
complete depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline
update (WOUS64 KWNS WOU1).

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Mesoscale Discussion 0587
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0805 PM CDT Fri Apr 29 2022

Areas affected...Far eastern KS into northwest MO

Concerning...Severe potential...Watch likely

Valid 300105Z - 300200Z

Probability of Watch Issuance...80 percent

SUMMARY...The threat for damaging wind and perhaps a tornado or two
will increase later tonight. Watch issuance is likely.

DISCUSSION...At 01Z, a mix of small bowing segments and embedded
supercells is ongoing across northeast KS. An evolution toward an
increasingly linear mode is expected with time, as a cold front
continues to overtake the ongoing storms. While lesser buoyancy and
increasing MLCINH will characterize the downstream environment
across northwest MO, an increasing low-level jet will help to
sustain convection, with moderate deep-layer shear continuing to
support organized structures. The linear mode will result in
primarily a damaging wind risk later tonight, though a tornado or
two will remain possible, as an increasing low-level jet maintains
strong low-level shear/SRH across the region. Watch issuance is
likely soon in order to cover these threats.

forms and persists will pose a risk of very large hail, damaging
winds, and strong tornadoes.

The tornado watch area is approximately along and 70 statute miles
east and west of a line from 30 miles north northwest of Beatrice NE
