🌤️South Canterbury Weather for
Wednesday:

Good evening followers.

Today Tuesday sure has been a mixture of fog and sun and chilly across the region with most waking up to fog in Twizel, Lake Tekapo and towards the coast with afternoon showers from the incoming cold change.

Wednesday looks to improve with sunshine for everyone with the odd high cloud about and light winds.

Temperatures will range between 9 to 12 degrees with overnight lows around 2 to -3 with the lowest temps being in the Mackenzie.

Someone has left the freezer door open!

Another icy, frosty morning out there this morning for all locations, with severe frosts from Fairlie to Omarama with temperature ranging from -6 to -10

Omarama reached a shivering -9.6 with some reports in the area of below -10 🥶

❄️ Freezing fog continues to dominate the Twizel area and will continue to stay freezing for awhile yet!

⚠️ Avoid travelling if you can. If you need to travel, take extreme care out on the roads today.

Get ready for a weather switch-up!

A massive cold front is approaching the Tasman Sea, bringing heavy rains to the West Coast of the South Island and warm winds to the East Coast.

While the North Island will mainly have clear skies, some late rains may develop as the front moves north.

Waitangi Sunday is a day to watch out for in the West Coast, with heavy rain and gusty Northerlies expected in the morning. The ranges may see up to 350mm of accumulation, while the coast may get up to 150mm.

The Buller and Tasman districts will also experience heavy rains later in the afternoon, with accumulations ranging from 80mm to 150mm

The East and South of the South Island will enjoy the warm streak but expect thick high clouds and some scattered showers.

Marlborough will experience a period of persistent rain spreading from the west. Strong and gusty Nor'Westers are forecast for inland Canterbury and Marlborough, while strong North-Easterlies are expected along the coast. Highs will reach the mid to high 20s. Meanwhile, the North Island will have a calm and fine day, with increasing clouds and breezy northerlies.

Isolated showers may hit the Bay of Plenty and the Central Plateau. Northerlies will strengthen in the afternoon and could rise to gale force in Wellington, Manawatu, and Taranaki.

Rain will spread from the west and could be heavy for a time for western districts. The warm and humid airflow continues with temperature highs in the mid-20s for most

Get ready for a week full of weather surprises in the North and South Islands!

On Monday, the North Island will see rain gradually clearing with some fine breaks, while the South Island will be fine in the east but with showers in the west.

On Tuesday, the North Island will be mainly fine with only isolated showers, while the South Island will see showers developing in the west and south.

Wednesday brings partly cloudy skies with isolated showers to the North Island and showers in the west and south of the South Island, with occasional rain developing in the east and fine weather in Nelson.

The Chatham Islands can expect mostly cloudy skies with a few showers and fresh northerlies, which will ease on Monday and turn southwesterly on Wednesday.

A deep low is expected to bring strong winds to several areas starting on Waitangi Day (Monday).

Strong gale warnings for the southern South Island, eastern areas of the South Island and Wellington are possible.

From Tuesday, a cooler southwest flow could bring heavy rain to the south of the South Island with low confidence of heavy rain warnings for parts of Fiordland and Southland.

State Highway 23 between Whatawhata and Raglan is closed due to severe damage caused by the recent storm.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Rresidents of Northland, Auckland and Coromandel, we hope this message finds you well.

As we approach the next few days, we would like to inform you that the weather conditions are expected to be mostly cloudy, with isolated showers becoming rain tomorrow night.

We advise you to prepare accordingly and stay updated on any changes in the weather.

For Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, and the Tararua District, the forecast is mainly fine with showers inland today, with the possibility of thunderstorms.

A heavy shower or two is expected south of Napier tomorrow afternoon, which will become rain later.

For Waikato to Wellington, including Bay of Plenty and the central high country, isolated showers are expected to develop today with the possibility of thunderstorms about the high country until this evening.

Rain is expected to spread east tomorrow evening.

For Wairarapa, Marlborough, Tasman, and Buller, isolated showers, possibly heavy, are expected to become widespread rain from tomorrow afternoon.

Westland and Fiordland can expect rain to increase today, with heavy falls and thunderstorms possible tomorrow.

Northerlies are expected to rise to severe gale in Fiordland tonight.

For Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, it is expected to be hot today, with isolated showers from the afternoon, which may be heavy.

Showers are expected to become widespread tomorrow morning, then clear in the afternoon.

Lastly, for the Chatham Islands, cloudy conditions are expected.

We encourage everyone to stay informed and prepare for any potential weather changes.
