Jokes aside. Seeing restaurants busy and bustling is a great thing to see. Infusing our own money into our communities and economy especially right now is integral for growth in the industry. And thats why we enjoy the things we do with festivals, fund raisers and events.

We along with the upcoming new Food and drink magazine would like to give out a DINNER FOR 4 for a family out there thats been cooped up during this time. ($160 value)

Crazy times in the restaurant industry but the show must go on. Closing and halting creativity and culture like the past 6 months is NOT sustainable in the long term.
However, we do believe if done correctly and following guidelines we can return to a new normalcy. And that is just how we will survive this, adapting to a new norm.
We will be bringing back our kamayan dinners with certain guidelines.
We do reserve the right to refuse service if these are not followed.

We will be implementing the following.
- social distancing between tables in effect
- masks MANDATORY upon entry and anywhere besides your table while eating.
- suggested use of hand sanitizers located at each table
- temp gun readings prior to entry (too high and we will have to refuse entry)
- all beverage and plateware (if applicable) will be disposable
- 4 persons per table for your party, no groups of people that are not from the same household or from different parties (strangers)like we had before.

For all the people hating out there on our bringing a traditional style of eating to people. Please know that other places and people are fine eating chicken wings, fries, nachos, chips and dips and any other hand foods amongst their 4 person tables. Do not try to suppress other people's cultures and traditions while making exceptions based on what some deem as "normal". Eating fries with your hands is no different than eating rice with our hands.

Please respect our decision on this, although we may not be perfect and some may consider us over board with precautions we are doing what we must to adapt.

Sorry we have been absent for such a long time.
Our goal was to create and start a new food and drink magazine in the city of winnipeg that focused on cultural diversity, the small mom and pops, real deal stories from different people and places and all the wonderful food and people that comprise our provinces food and drink scenes.
Unfortunately with the circumstances and Covid the restaurant scene and many aspects of life took a pause, the team at Kucina Food and Drink were no exception to this either, we used this time to reset and concentrate on the safety of others, ourselves, families and our work.

Fast forward to today and we have decided to GO ON WITH THE SHOW. And now we "Pivot", some things are not in our control but we can move and adapt to this new way of life and living.

Stay tuned for our first Pivotal issue.

We out chea and we coming 💪💪💪

A Filipino supermarket chain out of California. This gem combines grocery shopping with a RIDICULOUS amount of food. Next level deep fry, barbecue and soup game.
So many filipino favorites, they have everything you need.
Its gonna be crazy busy.
FOUR , 4 foot barbecue grills, deep fryers, rotisserie ovens (can we say lechon?) and an army of workers will be pumping out easily over 100+ items in a grab and go style with seating for over 100.
AND they are giving away 150 BAGS of rice for $1 for the first 100 customers I believe.

Thanks again to Raymond and Seafood City team for letting indulge in the goodness.

We will be on with Carol Off tonight at 6:30. https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-2-as-it-happens talking about our fight to as well as the wider systemic issues that small scale farmers and processors struggle with while dealing with our Manitoba Agriculture department. Take a listen hopefully we sound ok.
The department has shown a history and pattern of mismanagement and a lack of acting in good faith when working with small processors and farmers. We are hoping with more public support and pressure we can work towards change so that all sectors can grow.

So many stories in the community like Dustin Peltier and Rachel Isaak 's

Kucina food and drink aims to be the voice of the people and support cause and stories similar these two cool cats.

We have done everything we can think of to ovoid getting to this point but unfortunately, we are left with no choice.

We can no longer produce our Prairie Tradition Cheese using raw milk.
This is not only our story, its the story of how artisanal food production across the province is being cut down by fear of liability. Governmental departments refuse to assume any risk, and our food culture is the blander because of it.

This is the story of how the department of agriculture has brought us to our knees.

It has an incredible legacy. A recipe brought across an ocean from France in 1893 and then across a country from Quebec in 1918. In a time when those journeys meant long travel in harsh conditions.
The raw milk Monk style cheese had been made right here in Manitoba at the Trappiste Monastery since then. We had been using it in our cooking careers for its unparalleled taste and texture.
And we weren't the only ones.
The Brothers made upwards of (9,600) wheels of cheese each year! Distributed through a local wholesaler many families and chefs used the cheese in their kitchens for decades.
Knowing that the Brothers were inevitably aging out of cheese production, and having an entrepreneurial spirit, we asked Brother Albert if he would be willing to take on a protege. And to our delight he said yes.
We spend the next year learning to make this popular cheese. We wrote up a business plan, built a commercial dairy processing facility and began production.
That was almost 3 years ago. What began with an earnest naivete has turned into the hard reality of where we are now.

131 batches of cheese made at a cost of $180 each. 80 plus batches of cheese rejected by the department of health and having to be destroyed. We have spent 2 years and over $20,000 following the departments directions of ordering costly tests from labs with questionable outcomes. The story is long and painful and confusing and complicated. The simple version of how and why this all ended is this.

Raw milk cheese is a special product. The milk can contain bacteria not suitable for human consumption, so aging the cheese is very important. continued in comments
