After watching through the Christopher Reeve Superman movies I wanted to do something with my favorite performance in those movies which was actually Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor. Then I thought of pairing it with one of my all-time favorite comic book performances Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Then when I think of Lex and Joker I of course thought of the DCAU. I know a few years back I posted a similar looking post to this hoping these next to films and get to be made. It was looking like they were going to happen, shot lists were completed, props were acquired, casts were assembled and we were beginning to coordinate schedules but then we decided to postpone for a little bit but things never went anywhere past that. Well I have the budgets secured for these two at least. Sadly one of the actor’s passed away and another may be too tied up with a play to participate but I’ve started talking with some other actors now. So here’s hoping again this time these two happen. I’m ready and excited. You’ll obviously get all the updates here as they happen. See you later.

I guess I’m on a kick for magic I decided to do Magic Man from Adventure Time. When the show first came out I thought it look dumb and had a super simple to the point of bad art style. As I went to college I saw some of the episodes and really grew to appreciate its humor, the lore of the series and even the art style.

I decided to go with Candiedisland from man was that show weird but also really funny. But it’s really cool how you can trace back so many of the creators of the current top show wither directly to this show or to a show that was created by some who originally worked on Flapjack.

I decided to go with from the Oz books. This scene is when Jack and Scarecrow first meet each other in and they assume each other speak another language because they’re from different parts of the world and get a translator despite clearly speaking the same language to each other.
For the knifeywifey’s sketch it’s a slightly different style then she normally uses.
For my daughter I’m very impressed with her overhead view of the pumpkin. Good perspective.

It’s showtime!
The new finally hits theaters today. The original is one of my favorite movies. I can’t remember the first time I saw it, it’s been in pretty heavy rotation my whole life. It’s hard to say what makes the whole thing work because on paper it really shouldn’t. This was back when movies would give you just the basic information you needed and let you connect the dots in between. This was also the first movie where not only did I notice the score I would sometimes watch it specifically for listening to the music. Over the years Michael Keaton has become one of my favorite actors ever and Beetlejuice just plays to his strengths so well. I have been interested in a sequel as I am for any story I enjoy. As bonkers as it sounds I feel like 90s Tim Burton could have made work. Over the years while other movies and late sequel have finally escaped development hell Beetlejuice 2 seems like it would never happen. It got to the point where I said I’d only believe Beetlejuice 2 was happening when I saw set photos. Mainly because many of my friends and family new I was a big Beetlejuice/Tim Burton fan so every time a fake fan poster surfaced I get it sent to me. The reviews for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice definitely have me intrigued. Overall very good and the bad reviews mostly just confirm the new film truly gets what worked about the original. I’ll see it as soon as I am able to. Another great thing about this is getting to introduce my daughter to the first Beetlejuice movie and seeing her just as excited to see the next one.

Just one more day til the new comes out. For today we have one of the most obscure and niche picks I could have gone with. I considered maybe trying to do the original description from the original script but A.) that probably would have been 2 hard to keep “on model” with the rest of these. And B.) it’s just written descriptions, hard to make something that people would recognize. The original concept for by . This was an interesting challenge as Burton’s style is very abstract so it’s challenging to interpret it into more solid shapes and knowing what material each thing is supposed to be etc. Like for example the hair is hard to figure out if he was imagining stringy hair like this or it would have been something more like the final design. in interviews says he came up with the electrified hair part. There’s something about this design that makes me think 90s. Obviously I prefer the final design but I can’t help but wonder what the film would have looked like they had kept with this design, would this had been a iconic Halloween/merchandising character? In general I find Tim Burton’s art style to be fascinating. I remember my dad bet me as a teenager that he could find a book of poems that I would actually like, my next birthday I got the and had to concede defeat. Tim Burton has been my favorite director for most of my life. Nowadays it’s really hard to pinpoint a favorite director but he’s still someone I will always be interested in seeing what he has coming out. His recent output has been hit or miss (I would argue still more hits but still) but the internet and other film snobs will NEVER make me hate him. He’s made too many great film and especially important films (to me) to ever turn on him.
