How did come to be?

How indeed.

A few years ago I ran a handmade business, I was the designer, the maker, the creator, the seller, the stallholder, the sender, the materials purchasing officer, the admin assistant... You get the idea. All the while I was also Mumma to two beautiful boys, friend, wife, daughter, sister...

Something had to give.

And so I found myself drawn to the world of designing digital products. I wanted to make something meaningful though. Something that would actually connect people. That I would be helping people in some way...

Having been on the journey of grief myself, experienced the intense period of funeral organisation and all the associated thoughts, decisions, moments that come along with that, I felt drawn to create products that would assist those experiencing the journey of grief themselves...

And so, Heartfelt Matters came into being 💛

Talking about death and the aftermath of death can be very difficult. Particularly when you may not have strong cultural traditions around death in your family. It's hard to know what the best thing to do or say is.

But you know what? Reaching out and recognising someone else's pain, no matter how awkward you feel, can be incredibly powerful 💛

Today it's fourteen years since my Dad died after fighting bowel cancer for two years.

I remember being shocked at the seemingly endless amount of decisions to be made and tasks to be completed when I helped my Mum to organise his funeral.

The journey through grief I have traveled since has been full of twists and turns, ups and very deep downs. It's different for everyone. Sometimes I think, yep, I'm at peace with the loss of a cheeky, loving, funny, supportive Dad and then BAM, something small can throw me sideways.

Here's my old man looking pretty dapper on his wedding day, before my brother and I were even twinkles in his eye 😉

Here's to you Dad, love you always.

Welcome to Heartfelt Matters. At some point in our lives we all experience the intense journey of grief. It can be all consuming, overwhelming, dark... Grief is also a journey that doesn't evolve in a straightforward manner. It can take twists and turns, you can feel like you've made peace with your loss and suddenly it's raw and up in your face again.

The death of a loved one and subsequent funeral or memorial planning can feel like you're bombarded with a million decisions to make in a short amount of time. Through Heartfelt Matters I endeavor to alleviate a small part of that stress by designing beautiful and unique products to celebrate and commemorate the lives of your loved ones.
