Albury had never won back to back premierships across the first five decades of the OMFL – they were in a golden era of talent and had taken out the 1937 and 1939 premierships – 1940 loomed large but in its way was World War 2 raging across Europe and stretching the resources of clubs across com...

One of the great Ovens and Murray FL grand finals was played out in 1939 between Albury and Wodonga – remarkably both captain/coaches of the sides were brothers Doug (Albury) and Gordon (Wodonga) Strang – originally from Jindera and premiership players in the VFL with Richmond they were back in ...

With the sad passing of local football legend Dick Grimmond I thought it would be nice to re visit one of the most enjoyable podcasts I have done on Glory Days - it was the 1972 Balldale premiership in the Hume FL captain and coach none other than Dick Grimmond -- the morning Dick and his trusty side kick and larakin mate Les Waldon came to my office for the interview was one of the funniest and fun filled few hrs you could wish for

Condolences to the family and friends of the great man - enjoy a bit of Dick and Les -- they should have been a comedy act these two !!

Things had been lean for the Balldale Magpies since its last premiership in 1962 – the club were up for one more fling at a Hume FL flag and with the signing of former Richmond star Dick Grimmond as coach he had his trusty side kick Les Waldron as assistant and a few very handy recruits – they c...

The Tigers had returned to its original colours and name after almost a decade of name changes due to religious divide in the city – they were ready to pounce on its first premiership since 1928 under the coaching of Essendon star and Brownlow medallist Stan Judkins for the 1937 season – they al...

How good were these days of radio as a kid we would kick the footy in the backyard and listen to the VFL match of the day or if Holbrook were on the 2WG Farrer FL match of the day we would listen to that

In between both World Wars the season of 1928 was to be one of the most tumultuous in the history of the OMFL with the bitter religious divide in Albury spilling onto the football fields and streets of Albury - amongst it all were some of the absolute greats of the Albury FC and the OMFL - the Bunto...

A Glory Days to consume

The scoring has dried up across all leagues ---

Hume Football League in the 1984 first grade season the average amount of points scored per game was 215 - in 2024 after 16 rounds the average amount of points scored per game is 143

In 1984 four players had kicked over a century of goals at end of home and away rounds -
Peter Gibbons (Brockelsby) 172
Daryl Jordan (Walbundrie) 140
Peter Murray (Jindera) 120
Rod Culph (Henty) 107

Keen to get some theories from the punters on this one
