Bye, bye 2024! This year was a milestone for our label. We released more music than ever before and much more important than the quantity: we’re still astonished by the quality of all that music. Ngl we’re still fan boys! You can witness another aspect of our fanboydom by listening to 11 more hours of radio recorded in 2024 (all available on our SoundCloud). Through our show we showcase all that jazz (or rather all that multi-genre-extravaganza) we love so much. And the show is probably the closest you can get to understanding our musical universe — and why our releases are musically so diverse.
One goal we wanted to actively work towards to in 2024 was creating more events to experience the music from our label communally and in person. So we organized listening sessions for DJ Swagger’s „Chemistry Forever“ in Berlin and Bielefeld last Spring and two more with our newest Kommerz members Dim Fumes and Calida Ray during the second half of the year. Plus, we got invited to do a label night in Frankfurt (so intimate!) and hosted another one (for the books!) in Berlin just a few weeks ago. Witnessing how all of you react to the music in person, seeing your faces, seeing you move, feels otherworldly. Thanks so much to everyone who was with us and supported independent art straight outta heart!

Happy release to and his debut album “Between Me And Myself”. 💖✨
A psychedelic trip through R&B, jazz, electronica and ambient, and even more, a trip through Freddy alias Calida Ray’s inner self. A deeply personal coming-of-age story, reflecting on the 21 -year-old pianist, singer and producer’s ambivalent relationship with growing up, presented in dream-like lyrical sequences. Ultimately, the album closes with “shadows blown away” on outro song “fall”, offering a glimpse into a more balanced future. The album was written in Freiburg, Berlin and Lisbon mainly between late Summer 2023 and Spring 2024 as an album to best listened to as a full body of work, meditating into the complex layers of harmonies and rhythm changes over the course of 51 minutes.

When Freddy presented us the album last summer we immediately noticed how much talent and potential this young artist brings to the table. And it felt even sweeter as we got to know him through our friend, drummer, artist and first intern . Both have been playing music together since their early teenage years and the chemistry is oh so present whenever they perform together. We were blown away when we witnessed the new Calida Ray show with Leevi on drums, joined by for additional vocals.

We can’t finish this letter without thanking all the creative souls who brought this project to another level. Thanks to our uncle Mark Pfurtscheller of for the master. Friendos and fam, this FRIDAY, right before Xmas and just as we’re wrapping up a tumultuous year (2024 a.k.a. more Kommerz releases than ever before), we want to bring together all of you who are dear to us for a final concert evening at . To celebrate friendship, community, and: great live music moments! This time featuring .fumes, , and the amazing (check out her label – incredible quality on all levels). ✨

Kommerz is an absolute passion project for us, and anyone who knows us knows how hard we try (and sometimes fail) to chip in all we’ve got. With a lot of ideas in mind, sometimes a bit chaotically executed, we aim to create a meaningful platform for upcoming artists from our direct circle of friends. We’ve built individual, always intimate relationships with each of them, sharing a love for slightly experimental yet catchy songwriting. This year, we helped launch two brand-new projects that embody so much of our ethos: Dim Fumes and Calida Ray. D.I.Y. ’til we die, but we leveled up A LOT. Massive s/o to all our talented friends who never hesitate to help and enhance Kommerz with their infinite creativity and countless hours. Without you, this wouldn’t be possible. Never! 😭💖🫂

On Friday, we’ll celebrate the album releases of both Dim Fumes (Liminal Clouds is out now!) and Calida Ray – the latter will perform Between Me And Myself with the amazing (also known as LOUSELV) on drums. To round out the lineup, we invited singer, songwriter, and producer Zylva, who released her Antiroom EP earlier this year with our friends at Squama Records. Zylva’s eclectic sound spans indie and pop to experimental electronics. At Acud, she’ll perform her set with musician and performance artist .franna on cello.

Btw, all profits from ticket sales go directly into the pockets of the artists!

For our latest radio episode we sat down with and , who just released their gorgeous mini-album „BEAMS, SCREENS & THE SOUND OF LOVE“ via Kommerz Records. Plus: bass player gets a cameo appearance. Noa Erni, producer and composer in Berlin, and Nardo, singer, songwriter and rapper in Pittsburgh, are an unconventional artist duo: Both are in their 40s, cherish their secluded „stay at home“-lifestyles, which gives them time to work on their music after coming home from work. Frankfurt was good to us. For the first time we took our label to a city that has a special place in our hearts (forza SGE 🦅).
For me (Lukas) on to, doing an event at this venue is like a full circle moment. Back in 2003 I did an internship at Starting Lineup Records (s/o & ) and one of the first concerts they took me to, was at “Space Place” now called “Tanzhaus West” and foremost the venue where our label night took place.
thanks so much for taking (with on drums) and his ambient jazz-electronica show on stage for the very first time while .fumes rounded the evening up with their driving bass sound. For all Berliners.. come by on December 13th when we’re doing it again (link in bio).

Happy release day to the talented – his very 1st single „falling into you“ is out now!

Through our dear friend, label artist and first Kommerz intern we got to know a young circle of super gifted and humble friends from the south of Germany. Among them Freddy – singer, producer, pianist – who presented us his debut album „Between Me And Myself“ last summer and had us immediately. Composed, performed, produced and mixed all by himself – but integrating of many of his friends. Such as , who sings along on „falling into you“, the song which we present to you today kicking off the album campaign.

LUGGE is Switzerland’s answer to Quasimoto, the rapping and constantly stoned alter ego of the legendary hip-hop producer Madlib. LUGGE is a creation of Zurich-raised artist Noa Erni, who has been composing outsider jazz music in Berlin for over a decade and works as a sommelier, tasting and selling wine. As LUGGE, he dissects simple everyday moments over self-produced lo-fi beats – delivered in in Swiss German, from the perspective of a stoic (never a cynic!).
